American Idol and shows like it bother me. As a matter of fact they bother me a lot. Usually us Christians fall into the trap of copying what the world is doing. So what’s next, Christian Idol? Now there’s an oxymoron. Let’s look at some of the definitions of the word idol taken from Merriam-Webster;

Idol; a representation or symbol of an object of worship; broadly : a false god. a likeness of something: pretender, imposter, an object of extreme devotion

An idol is a false god set up by men. A thing or a person to which extreme devotion is given, something or someone who takes the place of the one true God who alone is worthy of that worship.

What does the Bible have to say about idols?

You shall have no other gods before me. "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, Exodus 20:3-5

You saw no form of any kind the day the LORD spoke to you at Horeb out of the fire. Therefore watch yourselves very carefully, so that you do not become corrupt and make for yourselves an idol, an image of any shape, whether formed like a man or a woman, or like any animal on earth or any bird that flies in the air, or like any creature that moves along the ground or any fish in the waters below. And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars-all the heavenly array-do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshipping things the LORD your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven. Deuteronomy 4:15-19

Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’ Matthew 4:10

All human beings have an inherent nature to worship. It is part of us as we were created to worship God and only Him. If we don’t worship Him we will always find something else or someone else to give that worship to and there are those who willingly accept that worship. Satan is more than willing to direct our worship elsewhere and eventually to himself. In North America we are a worship oriented society. It starts at a very young age. Go into any child’s bedroom and you find pictures and posters of their idols. Go to any rock concert and watch the worship that takes place. Go to any Hollywood movie premier and see how the crowds worship the stars as they walk in. I haven’t seen many of these stars turn away that worship either. They seem to bask in it. Some of the most disgusting worship is given to some of the rap stars such as Eminem and 50 Cents. They espouse rape, murder and sodomy and are rewarded for it.

Then there’s the worship of things and riches. It could be a car, it could be a computer or even your bank account. It could be a pet or a cd collection. It could be your wife, husband, kids or somebody else. Think about it. Whatever you spend the most time with or thinking about, that has become your idol. Jesus said in Matthew 6:21; For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. You’ve seen the slogan "He who dies with the most toys wins" When life is over, you will have nothing. You can take none of your possessions with you. Jesus told a parable in Luke 12:16-21;  And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ "Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I’ll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." "But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ "This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."

Worshipping the things that world has to offer will always leave you unfulfilled. You keep seeking and never find what you are looking for until you come to the place where you put Your Creator first in your life. When you do that, He will provide you with those things that He knows will make you happy in every way. Listen to His promise He gives you. For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD , "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Forget about idolizing the people and things of this world. They are only imposters. They are not the real thing. They will always let you down. There is only one that you need to worship and that is Jesus Christ. The only one who was ever perfect in every way. He has never let me down and I know without a doubt, He will never let you down either. Get to know Him today and you’re life will never be the same.

  2. Wow, I really had no idea how upset that comment would make lots of people… I am sorry for anyone who was strongly offended. But when I started reading this space thing, I was really shocked by how intense all of this was and I am not a rude kid, I stay out of trouble, no drugs, booze, etc… my mom works at a church… I definitely agree that God is amazing ot send his only son to die for our sins (concerning the cowboypilot). If you would like to read my blogs, they aren\’t about hate and drugs and sex… I am very opposed to such things. but you know guys, the only comment that was remotely nice was the guy who made this space in the first place… shows that he has good character and he can appreciate what I am trying to say. So, thanks Gerry….. you\’re a pretty good guy. Again, sorry for offending anyone. I don\’t know what I was thinking. Just maybe when you start making fun of me, realize that there\’s a 16 year old girl on the other end of these words and consider her feelings, as I did for you guys just now.

  3. Pink_Ranger5Thank-you. You show a lot of maturaty by apoligizing the way you have. We all at times do things we regret and wish we could take back. I know I\’ve done it many times myself. Thank God for Jesus who looks beyond our faults and loves us anyway.Drop by anytime and have a great day.

  4. Jesus is the image of a man on earth. An Idol. Keep thinking he\’s perfect and there will be nothing better, sure he was the best of us on record, God has no face we can see, It\’s part of what makes God.

  5. MicJesus is God and He was worshipped as God. He is perfect in every way. You need Him Mic. Seek after Him and if you are sincere, He will reveal Himself to you.

However, your site is restricted right now, to unrestrict it you can refer to Gerrys blog dated June 10th on how to make it available so that the rest of us can enjoy it. I understand the whole thing of how AI annoyes you, but think of the people that make it and how their dream comes true! For a lot of people, money is the one thing that holds us back to do what we want with our lives; and this \’annoying\’ opportunity for some is a their one ticket! I ask you this though, do you idolize your wife? Famiily? Or are they \’imposters\’?

  8. HI…tim\’s birthday was good yesterday.. we had some christian friends over… chatted…. Tim\’s aunt Gina was here, too… a deaf couple have the bible study at their home.. we discussed about taking gina with us to their house every tues nights… it was a good discussion. They will also help to come and pick aunt up for the church instead us because of our van wont fit for everybody.. pray that everything works out! Now i rest bit more not to be stress for the bible study at our house.. but at their house. My older daughter will babysit kids… so i can have a nice break for OUT to the bible study. NICE BREAK time! Also pray for us to receive a 8 passengers mini van so we all can go out together , not miss one, to the church etc …thanks

  9. OntarioSunshine1: Maybe this will help you understand in Jesus\’s words:Luke 14:26 [Amplified] If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his [own] father and mother [in the sense of indifference to or relative disregard for them in comparison with his attitude toward God] and [likewise] his wife and children and brothers and sisters–[yes] and even his own life also–he cannot be My disciple.Jason

  10. Pink_Ranger5: That\’s a stand up thing for you to say and do. Good on you. Yeah, Gerry is a pretty hip cat. LOL!Jason

Gerry, I have a christian punk band started up right now, were all pretty talented as far as local bands go, except, we have no name for our band, I\’ve been looking throughout the bible, because some bands i listen to have some awesome names that came out of the bible, but i\’ve had no luck, do you have any suggestions for band names that would fit such a christian band as mine? From Keith.

  12. bcButterfly said:

Jason,So you are basically saying that if one doesn\’t agree or follow the way of the Lord, then he or she is an imposter? Isn\’t that blocking others around you and I that can bring something good into our lives?

  13. good blog man…have a great dayGod blesslove peace and chicken grease~randy

  14. OntarioSunshine1There is only one that is worthy of worship and that is Jesus. Anything else would be an idol including all other religions. There are many imposters but only one truth. Jesus loves you. He is not a task master. He said; "Come unto me all who are weary and I will give you rest, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

  15. OntarioSunshine1: No. It means anything that you love utmostly more than God Himself is an idol aka a false god. I love my wife, but if I love her above God I have allowed her to become an idol in my life. Does it mean she as a person is an imposter? No. It means I haven\’t got my priorities straight. If God is number one my love list does it mean I love my wife less? No. It means that my love for God is so strong, that my love for my wife pales in comparison, however I love her as much as I humanly can without letting that earthly love interfere with my love for my heavenly God. As I love Him more, He teaches me how to love my wife and my children. It\’s this neverending cycle of love. Worship God first, He deposits His supernatural love into me. That supernatural love now flows through me to my wife and my children, and loves them in a way I could never of loved them had I not put God first. If I had not of worshipped God first, I\’m not sure He would have trusted me to take care of His beautiful daughter and His precious children. As we put God first, He teaches us to love those around us in a way we never could have without Him. This explanation assumes that you know God. Do you? If you don\’t I can understand why you\’re construing worshipping God alone as isolating ourselves from society as a whole, and most likely judging the christian as close-minded. It\’s completely the opposite. As we worship Him he gives us His supernatural love for those around us, believers or unbelievers. Hope this helps. Jason

  16. you did not respond to my other comment and i see that it was taken out i hope i didnt say anything to hasty then00b_24,how can you put christian and punk in the same refrance i listen to classic rock my self and i can not understand why anyone would want to call them selfs a "punk" do you have the slitised idea what punk means.Gerry small question what religion said that you cant eat meat on friday\’s?peace and love *~*CRONIC-PAIN*~*

  17. Oh, I see you erased my comment. That means I\’m right and I win.You don\’t want anyone to see that you are in fact, Hitler-like in your beliefs. I knew it.

  18. then00b_24A good one to ask about a name for your band would be God. I\’m sure He\’ll inspire you.

  19. Jimmy WanabeIt was the Catholic church that had that tradition for a long time but it is not really followed anymore.

  20. Gerrywhy does he demand worship? Is he so petty he requires constant ego-gratification?People need to see someone live the life they cant, thus celebrities come into play. We live vicariously through them in order to make our day-to-day life that much more exciting. I dont think that the American Idols demand a mass every Sunday or constant praise. That would just be silly.and selfish.

  21. Spin_Sugar_SpinI kind of think you crossed the line with the Hitler comment. Come on I would think you would be a little more intelligent than to resort to name calling. As for my blog, my views have not changed. Sin is still sin. We love the people but we can\’t accept the sin and if a person continues in sin after hearing the word then they can\’t stay as part of the church.

  22. KyleWorship is not for God\’s benefit, He doesn\’t need it. It is for ours. By worshipping the Creator we are drawn nearer to Him. Worship is not just something that is done on aSunday, but it is a lifestyle. Everything you do being devoted to Him.I used American Idol as an example. Westeern society is focused on exalting celebrities. People will always let you down. God never will.

  23. You are a Zealot! You are all Zealots, thats fine speak your minds but don\’t push your veiws on someone esle, not everyone believes what you believe…thats right now everyone thinks what think is right, its not a bad thing. They have there own way of thinking and thats what makes us individuals…not Cross Waving Zealots… bye bye

  24. guntriggerheroWhy thank-you! If you mean in being a zealot I\’m being zealous for Jesus, then I\’ll take that as a complement even if that\’s not what you meant. As far as pushing things on you. Well it\’s you that visited my space, I didn\’t visit yours. How does that make me pushing my beliefs on you? Last time I checked free speach was still allowed in Canada. You have a choice to believe or not believe. Just remember the consequeses are eternal and that\’s one thing that you to seriously need to consider.

  25. Greetings!It\’s great to see so many Christians all over the world who are not scared to share their faith and opinions. You\’re doing really well with the site! Keep ut up! May the Lord bless you as you continue to seek His name and do awesome things for Him. God BlessMurphy 🙂

I think it\’s great you are a fellow worshipper. But I think that Idol means follower. They follow in the footsteps of someone. Just because someone follows Jesus. Does not mean they are not allowed to follow somebody else.

  27. Min Qian said:

Religious fanatics like you are leading people to hell. I just can\’t believe how much the world is suffering from Religious rivalry. You have to admit that the London bombings, WTC and the like are all religious attacks on the world. These were due the extremeness of religious people like yourself – over zealous. You may be Christian, or any religion but taking things so far such as how you say "Britney Spears" leads children to hell prove to all of us how much trouble there really is in our society today.

  28. Stephan said:

What I find disturbing is how the world dilutes the meaning of words, example, "idol". It seems the meaning has been softened up to simply mean "one who is appreciated by many". I find even the Church, over the years has been softening up the Word of God in some regards. I still believe that God\’s Word is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, and is as strong and as meaningful today as it was two thousand years ago. I am a sinner and I\’ve got some repenting to do.

  29. SloppySpoonYou think idol means follower? I think you need to get out your dictionary and check out the meaning. The bible is very clear that idol worship is an abonimation to God.

  30. HatredI\’m sorry but true followers of the Lord Jesus Christ never started any war or have been involved in terrorism. Christ never advocated that. The Way is not a religion but a relationship with Jesus. To equate Jesus with a terrorist is like calling Hitler a saint.Go right ahead, keep on following people like Britney Spears and Emenem. Let\’s see where they will lead you.But if you follow Jesus you can\’t go wrong.

  31. vermprojectThank-you for your honesty. We all have been guilty of lifting people up over God at times. Our society is driven that way and has spread into the church. We need to be on guard as to the condition of our hearts at all times.

  32. Christian said:

I saw somebody saw why do you talk like that. But grammer these days has no meaning. For example. Yo dawg. What\’s up in the hizzle? I would have never guessed that. I\’m still trying to find out what home fry is. Well when the languages first came we spoke like that but before that we said Ooga-Booga.

  33. Christian said:

You people posting these comments don\’t know anything. There is no heaven. (I am a worshipper) Heaven just means when you die your spirit will rest. I think hell might still be on earth although some very good people are ghouls. So I\’ll have to think about this one.

  34. SloppySpoonThat\’s the problem with today\’s society. We have taken words and given them different meanings. Gay used to mean happy and joyful and now it refers to someone who has chosen a lifstyle that is sinful. It\’s all to make sin seem a little more platable to western society.Be careful what you say. Heaven is a real place. God dwells there. But it is not the believer\’s final resting place. Our home will be in the New Jerusalem after the old heavens and earth have passed away.Hell is also real. The bible talks about it as a place call Ghena. I have seen it and heard the cries of the people in torment. There is absolutly no place on this earth like it. People have no understanding when they say they are living hell on earth.

  35. Re:>I\’m sorry but true followers of the Lord Jesus Christ >never started any war or have been involved in >terrorism.Pardon me, but how do you explain atrocities like the Crusades or the Witch Hunts of history?michelle

  36. MichelleThe crusades were started more out of greed than anything else. Man used religion as an excuse for power and many suffered from it. Although many saw it as defending the Holy Land and tried to make it a Holy war. It still didn\’t make it right. The burning of witches was also wrong and done by misguided individuals. The crux of the matter is that Jesus never espoused these type of things. I\’ll say it again. Yes religion starts wars, but someone who really has a true relationship with Christ is not going to do that unless they are backed in to a corner. Many people call themselves Christians and they are not.The real question I ask you is why you feel the need to critisize something you don\’t understand. Jesus loves you Michelle. I challange you to pick up a bible and read the book of John and see what real love is all about.

  37. Candice said:

Yeah sure if you want to take \’idol\’ in the literal sense, but we dont bow down and sing our praises to Kelly Clarkson. Idol in this case takes in a pop culture meaning: one who stands out from the rest. Idol would mean a representation of talent or ability. These people dont want to be gods…they just want to sing, or dance, or write. Words are constantly evolving, and as they do, they take on other meanings, less formal ones. There are several examples of this in literature: gay, cool, lame, sexy, retarded…. These do not imply their literal meanings. Idol is one of these. Chances are, a lot of them thank God anyway….

  38. The_Cool_Pierced_GirlYou are missing the point of the blog. It is not about American Idol. It has to do with people exalting people and things to a place in their life that only belongs to God. Do honestly think that somebody like Micheal Jackson deserves the adoration and praise he recieves. What about Paris Hilton somebody who became famous because she made a sex tape with her boyfriend. We treat these people like they are gods. It\’s sad really. There is only one who is awesome and holy and worthy of worship and that\’s Jesus. Everything else just pails in comparison.

  39. First of all idols are not completely bad things they can give us ambition, dreams and motivation and although you may find these things in the bible and god other people don\’t.Second of all you\’re a little off with your idea of 50 cent and Eminem most likely because you have never listened to one of their songs to the entirety. Although I am not a very big fan of either of these people 50 Cent does not encourage rape, murder or sodomy. It\’s more or less drugs, money and hors that he encourages. Eminem on the other hand although yes someteims he can encourage things such as guns and violence so did the crusades and Eminem is speaking more about the troubles he\’s had to face in his life and his opinions. Third and finaly im surprised that you believe so strongly within God and christianity to be this blinded. I do not know whether there is a god out there or not but I do not attempt to pretend and if there is one let him decide my fate as he see\’s nesiscary. I do not wish to question your beliefs but i do wish to make you aware. If you really believe that christianity is the only right religion I suggest you rethink your ideas, there are hundreds of other religions in this world and many of them have been around just as long as christianity. There cannot be only one right answer for if so what would be the point in freewill and thought?I do not know wether you will read this and frankly i do not care but I will leave my email address if you decide you want to respond to this or just say something else.Bones

  40. BrokenGrim Here\’s a couple of reviews for you of both their latest cds.50 Cent The Massacre MAY 2005 The haunting “A Baltimore Love Thing” alludes to heroin’s addictiveness. “God Gave Me Style” says, “You can’t convince me that the Lord doesn’t love me.” Indeed He does, however … God can’t be too pleased with the rapper’s lyrics. Nearly a dozen tracks exalt lewd promiscuity. Oral sex. Masturbation. Lesbianism. The hits “Disco Inferno” and “Candy Shop” involve ogling women and making sexual propositions. 50 Cent—aka “Fiddy”—brags about playing head games with girls for fun and profit (“Get in My Car”). Dealing drugs is a way of life (“Hate It or Love It,” “I Don’t Need ‘Em,” “Ski Mask Way,” “This Is 50,” “In My Hood”). So is using them, sometimes in conjunction with booze. Fiddy prefers marijuana (“Just a Lil’ Bit,” “Get in My Car”) and cocaine (“Outta Control,” “Ski Mask Way”). Obscenities abound. Amid angry f-words, nearly a dozen raps threaten rivals with death and make crime and gangsta brutality seem chic. Liner pix feature guns and half-naked women. Born Curtis Jackson, 50 Cent survived a drive-by shooting in 2000 that saw him hit nine times, giving him street cred to spare. Too bad he isn’t parlaying his second chance and resulting celebrity into anything of value.Eminem Encore JAN. 2005 On “Yellow Brick Road” he apologizes for using the n-word (“I singled out a whole race … I was wrong”). “Mockingbird” empathizes with daughter Hailie’s emotional pain. “My 1st Single” includes references to oral sex, bestiality, homosexuality and celebrity porn videos. “A– Like That” compares female celebrities’ backsides and how stimulating they are. Sex toys appear on “Crazy in Love” which also states, “One minute I wanna slit your throat/The next I want sex.” Guest rappers on “Spend Some Time” one-up each other’s lewd, misogynistic boasts. The graphic “Love You More” shrugs off mutual promiscuity (“You’re a slut, but I’m equal”). Other tracks joke about child molestation (“Just Lose It”) and homosexual behavior (“Rain Man”). Bloody liner photos show Eminem shooting members of his concert audience (illustrating the disc’s running murder-suicide theme). “Puke” is a profane rant against his ex-wife—retching included. “Encore” applauds marijuana use. Other tracks vent bilious hatred for President Bush. Obscenities deserve frequent-flier miles. Eminem asks God to forgive his “Evil Deeds,” then proceeds to gorge at the trough of sexual perversion, profanity, murder and malicious celeb-bashing. I wouldn\’t want either one of those guys inspiring my children. Sadley many parents don\’t even know half what these guys rap about.Did you ever consider that you are the one that is blind? There are many religions in the world but only The Way allows you to have a personnel relationship with God himself. Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life no one comes to the Father but by me.

OK..OK..OK…What in the heck is wrong with Eminem, Britney Spears, 50 cent….and so on and so on. Aren\’t people allowed to express how the feel in their music? I always thought the freedom of speech was for everyone, including those who don\’t see things the way others do. Thats why people listen to them. they say what others are afraid to. It\’s not like if eminem say lets go shoot the president, were just going to jump on the train wreak. Theres a difference between fantasy and reality. We choose our on ways to live our lives. There are some wing nuts out there who do listen to what people have to say and do it. What if you as a paster were putting the fear of god into people and they started killing themselves because they thought it would be best to die befor sin against the all mighty god, would you condem yourself for that? If we all listened to what people had to say all the time, we would all more than likley go nuts, we I think anyways, if everyone in your church listen to what you had to say about how sin is going to bring them down, I could imagine they would all go nuts to. The way you talk you say it\’s a sin to have sex….well, it\’s not like you haven\’t done it, don\’t you have children? You can say all you want that god will judge us on our judgement days. But doesn\’t it say in JOHN 3:16FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOEVER BELIVES IN HIM SHALL NOT PERISH BUT HAVE AN EVERLASTING LIFE? Well doesn\’t that basically says if you belive in god you can be saved, I don\’t think anywhere in the bible says be obediant to the pasters that went to school to learn this stuff. Anyways this is starting to give me a headache, I gots to go, bye

  42. BrokenGrim Here\’s a few scriptures for you. Measure their music against this and tell me if comes up to snuff. And now, dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Phil. 4:8But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1John 1:7-9Yes God loves everyone, but salvation only comes after repentance. There is no free ticket into heaven without recognizing you are a sinner and turning from it.Hebrews 13:17; "Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you." That is a pastor\’s authority, to watch and to warn others of the dangers that are in this world. To teach and to exhort.Again anything that takes the place of God in your life is an idol and you need to get rid of it.

  43. Hi gerry,I\’m just curious, I always come here and say hello and how are you,I may not be a Christian in your eyes, but i\’m a nice and good person who respects others and their faiths. Why is it that I see you come and visit my space but never leave a comment to just say hi emma how are you doing bla bla bla. I see you leave comments only on "proclaimed" christians spaces. Why? Am I not worthy enough in your eyes for a hello? Just curious. Anyways as for the American Idol I do understand what you are trying to say. Personally I don\’t think it should be named that iether. Maybe American popstar or something to that effect. Anyways I hope you are having a good day, I hear it is hot up in your part of the woods so keep it cool :)Cheers:)Em

  44. awe well thank you gerry :)that made me feel better:) I understand why now. I was just starting to feel left out 😦 lol I think you are a very nice person and I repsect what you are trying to do. Just for the record tho, i\’m not a non beleiver at all. MAybe a little confused at times but I do beleive in God and I do beleive in Jesus 🙂 I try to live my life with goodness and teach my children morals and values and the difference between good and evil. Gerry,I\’ve always been bothered by that show. I watched it once, just because it was on a public TV, I was surprised to see the rudeness some of the judges had, and even the things that went on behind the scenes so that one contestant can beat out the other. They do not reflect Christ love at all, and therefore I ask, of what value is this to Christians? Does it help build us up in any way? Help us to act Christ like towards one another? I rather doubt it.

  46. Gerry, i am very concerned for the musics my children especially my older daughter seem enjoying the music in her own little music with am/fm… i am worried if its the evil songs because i could not know what the songs are , though i am deaf. It frustrates me for being deaf because i\’d stop them from hear the songs if they are evil… help me how to deal with that! I wish the stores never sells the music, though, i care for my children\’s sowings in their souls. Any idea?

All kinds of people getting defensive over their celebreties just goes to show that you\’re right. Now, i respect you, and submit to the fact that you are in a position in leadership, and i\’m not doing this to tear you down in anyway.I study a lot about grace and the free gift that God has given us. I\’ve never felt as free as i do knowing that there is nothing i can do to make myself right with God, but that only faith makes a person right with God. That faith being that Jesus is Lord.In your comment to broken grim says"Yes God loves everyone, but salvation only comes after repentance. There is no free ticket into heaven without recognizing you are a sinner and turning from it."This statement implies that we have to do something under our own strength to be saved. When salvation is completly free. Repentance means literally in the Greek, to turn 180 degrees. And the bible is clear that we cannot change our ways but by the Holy Spirit, and we can\’t rely on Him till were saved.Salvation is quite frankly a free ticket, but if your truly saved you have a relationship with Jesus, and who would want to just sit around when they KNOW Jesus? I know that if you truly know Him, His love and the Holy Spirit automataically makes you want to do the things that are right in God\’s sight. I hope it was a misunderstanding, cuz i know you teach great things here! It\’s just if we try to do things on our own we will fail. Later

  54. you never told me the evidense now did you tell me the evidence and i will consider and i mean sientific evidenceif not answer the question

  55. He only helps those who help themselves that sounds like a farce they helped them selves he didnt do anything like one of my idles (ozzy ozborne) said "kill them all let god sort them out" people have there oun lives on this planit god said that he would never interfear again you should know this if there is a god you are his after you die not befor when you are alive live you life to the fullest dont give your self boundries just cause some book sais that if you do there is a better place after you die let the led out man it will help you peace and love, *~*CRONIC-PAIN*~*

  56. duckboyYou are right and I should have chosen my wording better. Basically she was taking John 3:16 out of context. Meaning if she believed in God He would not judge her even though she continued in sin. A simple belief in God doesn\’t save you. You are only saved through believing in Christ and what He has accomplished on the cross. Even believers don\’t have that right to continue in sin after salvation. But if we do sin we have someone who is faithful and more than willing to forgive us.

Well the writings in john 3:16 are true are they not? Belive in him and you would not parish but have an everlasting life? I\’m not saying just beliveing in him is a free ticket into heaven but it sure does help. You can call me Broken Grim or whatever it is your want, but doesn\’t the bible also say love thy neighbor? Like c\’mon, I could imagine you don\’t go up to every person and say that you love them? My beef is, you can push and push your religion on people who are willing to hear it, but I feel that people like myself are allowed to belive in our lord in there own way, it\’s not like I have ever murdered anyone, committed adultry, made graven images for myself, take the lords name in vain, or have other gods befor me, I belive in only the one. I know there are alot more, but whatever. I belive that people and thats means all people should belive in our lord jesus christ in there way, and I don\’t belive in someone else such as yourself telling people that it is wrong. But really…are you telling everyone in that if they don\’t go about life as you do we are all going to be condemmed to hell? Personally, I think my life would be pretty boring if I went about my life like that. I could imagine you have swore under your breathe once or twice in your life, wanted to smack someone up the head for something stupid that they have done, or thought as nasty thought about a person. Personally, I know for a fact that we all have done, that and noone can tell me otherwise, so until you think about what you have done in your intire life, you should tell us what is right or wrong.

By the way, isn\’t things on the computer a false idolment so to speak? I don\’t think it says in the bible, get high speed internet access and take my word to the public by DSL OR DIAL UP. If you think that taking your word to the public by internet is the best thing to do, why stop there, why not go to the street of montreal\’ and holler to the heavens about how sin will ultimately be our down fall, or go to the poor people and give them jobs and help them finicially, out of your pocket, not out of the parishners in your church. Don\’t push this stuff on his if you can\’t do it yourself in person to all the others who really do need the help.PS. In case you didn\’t know, I do donate to charities out of my own pocket.

Gerry your site both infuriates me and has me rolling on the floor in laughter. I have very little respect for you any more (despite much patience over the months) because you are too quick to judge. You use the words \’A pastor\’s authority\’ like God appointed you to your role. First of all, there is but one authority, God. Second, anyone who wants to be a pastor can become a pastor if they jump through the right hoops of the Christian organisation. Doesn\’t mean it\’s right for you to be a pastor, or make you an authority on God\’s behalf. You place too much value on the words of those other than those of Jesus. And the actions of Jesus were more those of good deeds, and showing compassion for all those in need. Your vibe seems to be more about pointing out what other people are doing wrong. From my point of view (if I were to approach it as you seem to), I don\’t think God would be terribly happy with your repeated judgment of others. You\’re not without your own bag of sin, and it\’s all equal to god. hence John 3:16 and a few other noteworthy passages from the Gospels.I don\’t expect you\’ll keep this post, nor do I expect my words to have any impact on you whatsoever. You are quite convicted in your beliefs whether they are correct or not. I\’m not sure why I bothered to post. I\’m sure you\’ll just quote me some verse as a rebuttal, rather than something you\’ve actually thought deeply about.

  60. SomeoneYou can try and be as good as you want, it still won\’t get you into heaven. There is not a thing that you can do to win points with God. Our righteousness is like filthy rags to Him. There is only one way and that is through what Jesus did for you on the cross. Repentance means turning from your sin, you can\’t stay in it.Yes John 3:16 is true but listen to this from 1 John 1:5-10 to 2:1-6;This is the message he has given us to announce to you: God is light and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness. We are not living in the truth. But if we are living in the light of God\’s presence, just as Christ is, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from every sin. If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts. My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if you do sin, there is someone to plead for you before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who pleases God completely. He is the sacrifice for our sins. He takes away not only our sins but the sins of all the world. And how can we be sure that we belong to him? By obeying his commandments. If someone says, "I belong to God," but doesn\’t obey God\’s commandments, that person is a liar and does not live in the truth. But those who obey God\’s word really do love him. That is the way to know whether or not we live in him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Christ did.As for ministry this is only a small part of what our church does in reaching out to the community. None of us recieve a regular salary and all the money goes back into the church and helping those in need. You can visit our web site at http://www.servantshouse.org

  61. StephenoI could care less what you say about me. What matters the most is am I doing what God has required of me.I have to ask you though. Why do you keep coming back to my space? Did you ever think it is God that is drawing you? Of course you\’ll say no way, He doesn\’t control me or there isn\’t no God. But I believe He is. He loves you Stepheno. He always has. I don\’t judge you, you have already been judged and found guilty. We all were. There is not a single thing that any of us could do to redeem ourselves and that is why Jesus came and died. He became our redeemer and took our sins upon Himself. He faced the worst death and torture possible for us. All He asks is for you to believe and turn from your sins.As for my being a pastor go check out our web site at http://www.servantshouse.org. What authority that has been given to me has come from God. But I am answerable to the things I teach and have other pastors checking me. I am not answerable to you Stepheno. But you will one day stand before God and answer as to what you did with the truth I have told you.

  63. CoolGirlJadeI don\’t know how anyone could call them good artists. Their songs are from the gutter with no redeeming value what so ever.

Hey, I think that American idols stinks, but i also think that you took the name a bit too seriously. the producers dont expect everyone to drop God (Allah in my case) and start worshipping a loser who couldnt get a record deal so he/she had to go on a stupid show to get a life.PS: Eminem and 50 Cent rock.
