Democracy, Muslim Style

By Hal Linsey

As you can imagine, everyone is asking me my take on the significance of the Hamas victory in "Democratic elections" held in the West Bank and Gaza.

Let me put this into the larger context of my view on the situation. I view all of this from the vantage point of God’s prophecies concerning His miraculous restoration of Israel as a nation in the land He unconditionally promised them "in the last days."

God predicted the following things through the prophet Ezekiel, in stages:

Stage 1

The physical restoration of the Israelites to nationhood in their ancient home land from their worldwide dispersion:

Thus says the Lord God, "Behold, I will take the sons of Israel from among the nations where they have gone, and I will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land; and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel …"

– Ezekiel 37:21-22

Stage 2

This restored nation of Israel will be attacked in "the last days" by a coalition of the surrounding nations (that are all Muslim with Persia preeminent) that will be armed and led by Russia:

On that day when My people Israel are living securely, will you not know it? You will come from your place out of the remote parts of the north [Russia], you and many peoples with you [Muslim nations], all of them riding on horses, a great assembly and a mighty army; and you will come up against My people Israel like a cloud to cover the land. It shall come about in the last days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me when I am sanctified through you before their eyes, O Gog.

– Ezekiel 38:14-16)

Stage 3

After Israel’s Messiah miraculously delivers them from utter destruction, they will recognize who He is and believe in Him:

And I will set My glory among the nations; and all the nations will see My judgment which I have executed and My hand which I have laid on them. And the house of Israel will know that I am the Lord their God from that day onward.

– Ezekiel 39:21-22

The prophet Zechariah describes their conversion:

I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn.

– Zechariah 12:10

There is only one time in Israel’s history when Israel "pierced her God" – it was when they rejected their Messiah, Yeshua Ha’Meshiach, and delivered Him to be crucified by the Romans. (I am not saying here that Israel alone is guilty for that. Since the Messiah died for the sins of all mankind, we are all equally guilty for His death.)

Now to the main point of my understanding of these prophecies. According to God’s prophecies – that relate to these very times we live in – once Israel is restored as a nation from their worldwide dispersion, they will never again be destroyed as a nation. Israel will go through the greatest calamities of their history, but God will not allow them to be destroyed and scattered again. The whole context of Ezekiel chapters 36 through 39 promises this.

I analyzed the disaster the Oslo Peace Accords triggered, with its even more catastrophic offspring, the Roadmap to Peace. I surmised that unless Israel soon chooses a leader that will be strong enough to fight off foreign intervention, refuse to give into terrorists and deal in strength against those who vow that they will wipe Israel off the map, they will be destroyed.

I know of only one leader in Israel who has the kind of understanding of Islam and the courage and strategy to deal with them. His name is Benyamin Netanyahu. This is why I sought and got an interview with him in early November while I was in Jerusalem.

In that interview, I asked him what would be his plan if elected prime minister again. His answer was awesome in its insight, clarity and wisdom.

When I talked to knowledgeable people about Netanyahu getting elected, no one gave him a chance. My friend and astute news analyst Morris Beschloss thought it was virtually impossible. I said to him, "Just watch. I believe God will move events around so that ‘Bibi’ Netanyahu will be elected." He now believes along with me that this is a real probability.

Two events changed the whole political landscape in Israel, not to mention the world’s. First, Ariel Sharon had his tragic stroke. Second, Hamas was elected to power in a truly free "democratic election."

This last event shocked even the most liberal-minded peacenik dreamer in Israel. Now most of Israel realizes that the only hope to survive is to bring in a leader who will not give anything to "terrorists because he knows it only emboldens them to attack more and gives them power over the few Palestinians that might not want to use the jihad option."

It is my sincere prayer for Israel that they elect Mr. Netanyahu as their next prime minister. I can’t see anyone else doing what needs to be done.

In the meantime, we Americans need to learn the lesson that all of the dictatorial rulers of Muslim countries know only too well. They are never foolish enough to allow a truly free, democratic election. These leaders know that if they did, most them would be voted out of power by the most radical elements of Islam. Just look at Algeria, Morocco – and, yes, Saudi Arabia – to name a few examples. Even Egypt exerts lots of pressure behind the scenes on their elections.

So America needs to learn a different solution for dealing with the Muslim world. Fight to set them free from the tyranny of Muslim leaders. Set them up in a democracy. Most of them will then use that "democratic freedom" to vote back in a radical fundamentalist and return to the severity of the Quran’s Sharia Law. That is their religion. It is contrary to concepts of Western-style democracy.

"Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad – because these trials will make you partners with Christ in His suffering, and afterward you will have the wonderful joy of sharing His glory when it is displayed to all the world." 1Peter 4:12-13

"Dear brothers and sisters, whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy. For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything." James 1:2-4

The Christian walk is not an easy one. You are swimming against the current in this world and you are bound to hit some pretty big waves. Jesus said that because the world hates Him it will hate you as well, (John 15:18-19) because you belong to Him. Jesus never promised to remove our problems but promised He would be there with us through them. They come to make us strong. They come to purify us. They come to make us like Jesus.

The Lord showed me that a process that takes place in nature is what takes place in a Christians life. A lump of coal is one of the dirtiest rocks you can find. If you handle it, it leaves black marks on your hands and clothes. But if you take that lump of coal and apply heat, pressure, and time, a transformation takes place and that lump of coal becomes a diamond. A precious jewel.

When Christ first found us, all of us were like that lump of coal. We were dirty with sin. He picked us up and washed us with His blood and then using the pressures of this world and the cost of serving Him, in time He lovingly created diamonds. People who have counted the cost and say no matter what I will serve Him. Like Job they say; "He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold." Job 23:10.

People are looking for real hope and real joy. They are watching us, seeing if our faith will sustain us. Many souls have been won to the kingdom simply because they saw the joy with which Christians faced trials.

How do you face your trials? Do you do it with groaning and complaining? Or do you count every trial as an opportunity to grow, to draw nearer to our Saviour? Do you persevere? Jesus says this in Revelation 3:10-13; "Because you have obeyed My command to persevere, I will protect you from the time of great testing that will come upon the whole world. Look I am coming quickly. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown. All who are victorious will become pillars in the Temple of My God, and they will never have to leave it. And I will write God’s name on them, and they will be citizen’s in the city of My God – the new Jerusalem that comes down from heaven from My God." And they will have a new name inscribed upon them." Amen. Lord, we look froward to that day.

Change Your World

For many believers the extent of their Christianity is going to church on Sunday. For the rest of the week they stick it back under the carpet and go on with their lives. It’s like having a secret identity. During the week they are mild mannered or in many cases not so mild mannered citizen. Come Sunday they turn into Super Christian. Able to sing God’s praises loud enough so that all can hear! Then after the service faster than a speeding bullet to get out of there and out of the parking lot. Other than Sundays no one would even know that they are a Christian. To be a follower of Christ means to impact your world. It means living for Christ every waking hour. People should know you are different. In many cases believers allow the world to change them when it is the world around them believer that should be changing.

Christ is our example. Wherever He went people were changed. Some for the good and some for the worse. No one could remain unaffected by Him. He went into the synagogue in Nazareth and read from the scroll of Isaiah

18" The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.
" Luke 4:18-19

He went on to do all the that He stated. As a matter of a fact no single human being has ever changed the world as He did in 3 short years of ministry. He said we would do greater things.

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. John 14:12

Paul and the apostles went on to do greater things and change their world through the gospel message that Jesus preached. They lived and died for it. Read the book of Acts to see just how much they changed and affected those they came into contact with.

Charles Finney (1792-1875) was an evangelist that constantly walked in the presence of the Lord. When Finney was ministering in Utica, he visited a cotton mill in that area, as he walked through it, he observed that workers were under the sense of conviction. All the workers burst into tears spontaneously as Mr. Finney approached them. The owner of the mill came to know of the happenings, and he told the supervisor of the mill, "stop the mill and let the people attend to religion; for it is more important that our souls should be saved than that this factory run." The work was stopped and they all gathered in a large place, to them Mr. Finney ministered the word of God. There were a great number of conversions that day; all the workers gave their hearts to Lord Jesus.

It is because the Holy Spirit lives in you that you can change your world. It is He who brings the conviction to others and gives you the power and wisdom you need to interact with those around you. But you acn also stifle Him and not allow Him to work.

There are so many ways to change your world. The first is knowing God. Not just knowing about Him but actually taking the time to know Him intimately. He has been revealed to us through His Son Jesus Christ and the Spirit. Get to know Him by daily spending time in prayer and His word the Bible. Next, ask Him how you can change your world. What would He have you do? This world holds a lot of hurting people. James said that Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. James 1:27 You don’t have to be in ministry to change your world. You just have to make yourself available to be used. The Lord is looking for willing vessels. When you do that, He will use you to change the world.

So take off your secret identity and put it off for good. Let all see who you truly are.

14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16

Just Plain Weird

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong. 1 Corinthians 1:27

I’ve never fit in. I guess you can call me a non-conformist according to the ways of this world. My heart and mind always beat in a different direction to my friends growing up. I was the quiet one. The thinking one. The last one to try drugs. The last one to use alcohol and the last one to have a girlfriend. Not that I didn’t want to have one, I was just too shy. Deep within me I always wanted to do what was right. Because of that I was labelled very early as being weird. I took it to heart and it bothered me quite a bit. So much so that in my late teens and early twenties I tried to prove them otherwise. But in doing so I felt like a fish out of water. No matter how I tried I didn’t fit in. Even some of the girls that I went out with remarked that they didn’t know what I was looking for, but it was something that they couldn’t fill. Many relationships came crashing down because of this.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew [and] approved of you [as My chosen instrument], and before you were born I separated and set you apart. Jeremiah 1:5a (Amp) God was always there in my mind. I couldn’t shake thoughts of Him. Even when I was doing things that were out of my character, I knew I was loved by Him and because of Him I was different. I was called and I couldn’t escape it. It wasn’t until I was 25 that I finally embraced Christ. All my friends left me at this point as I was just too weird for them. Those words from Jeremiah were confirmed to me through the Prophet Eugene May years later.

The same goes for all that have come to Christ. You always knew you were different. That you didn’t fit in You knew from the beginning you were searching for something. When Christ found you, you knew you’d finally found what you were looking for. Don’t try and get the world to accept you. It never will.

"If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, A slave is not greater than his master ‘ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also." John 15:18-20 (NAS)

Face it my brothers and sisters, you are fools in this world’s sight. Just plain weird!  Rejoice in it. Dance and sing for the joy of it. Revel in your weirdness always giving glory to our God and Saviour who has chosen us and set us apart.

Jesus, You Are the Fairest

One of the greatest pictures of Christ’s love for His church is found in the Song of Songs, The Song of Solomon. For some it is an embarrassing book to read, but if you can see the greater spiritual significance, you begin to see it’s a picture of Christ romancing his future bride. Read the book with this in mind. You’ll gain a whole new perspective to Christ’s love.

I wrote this song based upon that book a couple of years ago. I wrote it down as a poem to begin with and then about 6 months later as I was doing dishes then tune for it came to me.

Jesus, You Are the Fairest

Gerry Desjardins 2004

No star in the heavens

Could ever match Your glory

No mountain that stands

Could ever shadow You

In all of creation, In all of the earth

None can compare with You

Chorus

Jesus, You are the Fairest of ten thousand

The Lover of my soul

Jesus, You are the Lily of the valley

The Bright and Morning Star

There is none so beautiful,

There is none so lovely

As You my risen Lord

No song ever sung

Could truly reveal you

No poem ever written

Describes just who You are

There has never been a sunrise, nor a sunset

That can match Your majesty

The Miracle of a Child

Children are a gift from the LORD;
they are a reward from Him.
Psalm 127:3

In society today many children are treated as if they are a burden instead of a blessing. An inconvenience for a woman’s or family’s career or lifestyle. Between the years of 1973 and 2000 there were 39 million reported abortions performed in the United States. So come on out all of you who think that it is a woman’s right to murder a child. Let’s call it what it is, murder. We talk about war and death in other countries, when there is a holocaust going on right in our very midst. People are using it as a form of birth control and we are throwing away lives.

A new born child has always produced in me a sense of awe and wonder. A child is a miracle of the creative power of God. A new heart, which has never before beat on earth has been born. Each child is unique. They are given their own personality and appearance. Each one has a genetic code that nobody ever had before.

Scientists not too long ago finished for the first time in the history, a map of the genetic code of the human body and declared that the paper pile produced by this data would be taller than the Washington Monument.

Psalm 139: 13-18 says this;

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous–and how well I know it.

You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.

You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.

How precious are your thoughts about me, O God!
They are innumerable!

I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up in the morning,
you are still with me!

I remember the birth of my daughter. My wife was in labour for 37 ½ hours. We started to wonder whether the baby was ever going to arrive. (Later I learned that one of daughter’s character traits is that she likes to take her time and this was her way of showing us that she was not going to be rushed). When the time of the birth was near, she got caught in the birth cannel and was strangling. The doctors had to work quickly to get her out. I cannot endure the sight of blood, but that day it didn’’t bother me. I wanted only that my wife and my child were healthy and safe.

The doctor announced that it was a girl and I let myself go. I cried like a baby and at the same time I praised God for his goodness. It was the first time in my life that I had witnessed the miracle of birth. Melodie-Joy was perfect. I remember when they put her in my arms. I had never seen anything as beautiful as this child. She cried but whenever I spoke and comforted her, she would stop and look at me with her big eyes. I was bound to that child that day. I thank God each day for her. We gave her name Melodie-Joy because the day after her birth she made musical noises while she was feeding and she had brought such joy into our hearts.

Two years later, Gabriel Adam came along and once again I was blessed to take part in this miracle. My two children are unique as is each child. They are such an incredible blessing to me. Sometimes I even wonder if they are angels in disguise. God knew them before they were born. He gave them the breath of life and for this reason, I am eternally grateful.

Melodie-Joy and Gabriel – Thank-you for being who you are! Though I have raised you as a single dad for the last 10 years, Not once have you ever been a burden. You are wonderfully and awesomely made. I love you both. I thank God for the priviledge of being your father.

The Servant

He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. if anyone serves Me, him My Father will honour. John 12:25-26

Many of us are familiar with this verse. But what exactly was Jesus talking about? First of all we have to look at Jesus Himself. What does the scripture say that he did? Philippians 2:7 says that Christ made Himself of no reputation, taking on the form a servant. Jesus said Himself in Matthew 20:28 that He did not come to be served but to serve. Jesus Christ is God incarnate and picture this, the God of all gods, the Majesty of heaven, the Creator came and took on the form of a man to serve His creation. Willingly washing His disciple’’s feet and then allowing Himself to be punished in our place. He freely gave Himself to us even to the point of dying on the cross. He said no there is no greater love than this, than someone lays down his life for his friends. John 15:13 It was the ultimate act of being a servant.

When we come to Christ, we become His bond-servants. In the old testament when a slave gave himself willingly to a household, the master took that slave to the doorpost of his house and drove an awl though the servant’’s ear. The shedding of the servant’’s blood on the doorpost signifies what Christ did for us by shedding His blood. We are saying to Jesus we no longer want to be a slave to sin but His slave. His bond-servant. We bind our selves to Him willingly because of what He did for us. We give up our right to freedom and become His servant for eternity.

Thinking of being a servant sometimes bring up images of a tough master but in the Christians case this is not so. He promises us rest in serving Him. Jesus said "Come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."  Matthew 11:28-30

Being a Christian means to serve. It means putting the needs of others ahead of yourself. It means doing the lowliest of tasks without complaint. A true servant will do the jobs that no one else wants. It means doing things for God that no one sees except Him. He is humble and does not boast in the things he does. They follow Christ’’s example as in Philippians 2:5-11 True servant’s of God know that their real reward for service is in Heaven. A crown of righteousness.

I once attended a church with about 800 members where only less than 5 percent were servant’’s. The rest just sat back and wanted to be served. Imagine what that church could have done if all of them were servant’’s like in Acts 2:42-47. They could have turned this city upside down. Will we allow your church to become like that? I pray not. I pray that each of us would find an area of service. Find out what you can do. Your church has many areas in which you can serve. Ask the pastor where you can help. You may be asked to do some tasks that don’’t have any earthly reward, but if you have a servant’s heart you will not grumble or complain. That is the true test of a real servant.

God’s Pusuit 3 – The Consequences of Staying In Sin

Behold, the LORD’S hand is not so short that it cannot save; nor is His ear so dull that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear. Isaiah 59:1-3

Sin separates and always carries a cost. Yet many Christians make excuses for continuing in sin. We can understand that some of the younger ones would struggle in the same way as a baby learns to walk, those who are new to Christ have to learn to walk through the teaching of the word and the Holy Spirit. But there are those who have supposedly known Christ for years and yet they still struggle with sin. Many make excuses as to why they can’t change and use grace and the great love that God has for us as an excuse to continue. Paul said in Romans 6:

1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?

2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?

3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?

4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

5 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection,

6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;

7 for he who has died is freed from sin.

8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,

9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him.

10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.

11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,

13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.

14 For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!

16 Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?

17 But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed,

18and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

19 I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification.

20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.

21 Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is death.

22 But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life.

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Even though sin will not stop God’s love for us, what it does is allow a hardness and a dullness to come in. The longer we stay in that sin the harder it is for us to hear God’s voice. His love seems to feel distant even though He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. It is us who forsake Him. We ignore the prompting of the Holy Spirit that we are headed in the wrong direction and our hearts begin grow cold and hard towards the things of God. His love for us becomes a distant memory. We even find ourselves blaming God for our condition and saying if He really loved me, He would deliver me from this. The fact is He did deliver you from all sin but through self deception you have returned to the vomit which He found you in. God will never force you to stop sinning. That would violate our will and that is something that He can’t do. He will do all He can to gently try and persuade you from sinning, but if your mind is made up He won’t stand in your way. We have to choose to serve Him or not. To sin or not to sin. To love Him or scorn Him. The further you go, the angrier you get and eventually you begin to curse God and then finally turn your back on Him becoming much worse than the condition He found you in. Angry, bitter and lost. You even wonder why you even believed in God to begin with. You exchange the truth of God for a lie. Understand that God has not changed, you have. His love for you has remained constant all through it. His arms always remain open for you. The Father waiting for the prodigal son. There is not a single soul that is in hell that God wanted there. They made the choice themselves through rejecting His love and mercy.

Do you want to change? Then tell Him. Be honest with Him and yourself. A sincere heart always gets God’s attention. Understand that when the Lord is speaking to Israel He is also speaking to the church and the individual. He says in Jeremiah 29:11-14a "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back from your captivity."

No matter how far you have fallen, He is ready to take you back at the drop of a hat. You are His child. Seek Him with all your heart, mind and strength. If you notice hardness beginning to settle in take drastic actions before it’s too late. Don’t listen to the lie that you have gone too far and you can’t turn back. As long as you are still convicted in some way of your sin you are in a good position and you need to cry out him. He says; "Return, O backsliding children," says the LORD; "for I am married to you. I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion. And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding." Jeremiah 3:14-15

You are His treasure. His jewel. Christ gave His all for you. You have become one with Him and He will never give you up. He will pursue you right to the end.

God’s Pursuit – The Depth of His Love

One of my favorite authors is Ted Dekker. I suggest that if you haven’t read any of his books you do so if you like Christian fiction that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I just finished a book by him called "When Heaven Weeps" It is a modern day retelling of sorts of Hosea and Gomar. In the book Jan Jovic is a Christian author who has written a book called "The Dance of the Dead" which became the most popular book ever next to the bible in sales. Everything in his life is going exceptionally well until he meets Helen, a woman of the street who is addicted to cocaine. Then his life and world is turned upside down as he falls madly in love with this woman. A love that has not come from himself but a love that emanates from God.

Helen had never faced this type of love and she finds herself going back and forth between Jan ands the man who feeds her need for drugs. She longs to be with Jan and yet the pull of the drugs is sometimes too much for her and she makes excuses as to why she needs to go back to her sin. Yet each time she falls Jan takes her back and smothers her with love and forgiveness. I won’t spoil the story for you, but I can tell you that in the end love wins out.

At one point Jan in talking with the Lord about his feelings for Helen, the pain along with the deep love. The Lord tells Jan that what he is feeling is but a mere shadow of the love that Christ feels towards humanity. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 Jan was ready and willing to give up his own life as a sacrifice so that Helen could be free. In loving someone we must truly die to self.

All of us at one time or another have been like Gomar or Helen. We make excuses for our sin. Sin brings pleasure to our flesh, but true love is never found in it. We keep returning to the vomit from which we came. Our flesh loves to wallow in it. Then once the pleasure is slated we return in sorrow to the One who loves us more than we feel we deserve. The real mystery of God’s love is that He is always willing to take us back and clean us up once more. In the end if we are truly repentant, His love will win out.

When I was younger I was addicted to sex and pornography, sometimes the urge would become so strong that I would push all thoughts of God out of my mind. I still felt I loved Him and yet for a few moments of pleasure all thoughts of Him would be lost from my mind until I would come crashing down. Then came the realization that I had once again failed in my walk with Him. I hated it and yet loved it. I hated myself for loving it. There have been times when I have fallen so far. How could God continue to love me? Yet He did. Each time He would take me in His arms and remind me of His love. It is His love and patience with me through it that has set me free. He never gave up on me even though many times I wanted to give up on myself.

"What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish. Matthew 18:12-14

He will always pursue you no matter how far you go. He will never give up on you. If we are faithless, He will remain faithful, for He cannot disown Himself. 2 Timothy 2:13 He is the Faithful One. So unchanging in His love for you. If you are a Christian you have become one with Him. He paid a very high price for your ransom through His death on the cross.

Mankind is the jewel of God’s creation and I began to see one of the parables about the kingdom of heaven in a new light.

Jesus said; "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it. Matthew 13:45-46

I saw us as that pearl and Christ as the merchant. Christ gave up all in heaven and became a man to purchase us. Philippians 2:6-8 says; who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bond servant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. The cross is the greatest act of love ever known. He paid the price for us at great cost. Can we really truly understand the depth of this. Sometimes I sit and meditate upon what He has done and it blows me away. I struggle to understand those who reject His love. He is the Greatest Lover. The Great Pursuer.

Oh Christ, how great Your love! No words can tell! No song can explain how deep, how wonderful, how marvelous is the depths of your passion for us.
