Sometimes what God is doing in our lives is not always clear. The way is clouded by shadows and deep valleys. Things happen to us that just don’t seem to fit in with what we believe is God’s plan for us. Why would He allow us to go through these times of hurt and indecision seemingly alone?

C.S. Lewis was one of the greatest Christian writers of our time. He was a bachelor until late in his life when he met Joy Davidman. They married and 3 years later she died of cancer. Watching her die was one of the darkest periods of his life. These events were portrayed in the movie "Shadowlands" He wrote afterwards the book "A Grief Observed" in which he talks about the pain of suffering. In this journal, he documents first the overwhelming sensations of his grief, then his rage and confusion at God. As time passes, he chronicles his return to Christ and his acceptance of a new life, forever shadowed by his wife’s death, but still whole.

Satan is frightened by those who go through such pain and suffering and not knowing the reason why, they continue to serve God. In another book written by C S. Lewis called "The Screwtape Letters" He gives a fictional account of a series of letters written between a junior demon (Wormwood) and his superior (Screwtape). The junior demon had been given the assignment of keeping a man from coming to Christ and was experiencing difficulties. In response to a problem this demon was having the superior wrote back to him the following; "Do not be deceived, Wormwood. Our cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring, but still intending, to do our Enemy’s will, looks round upon a universe from which every trace of God seems to have vanished, and asks why he has been forsaken, and yet still obeys."

Sometimes in grief and pain we can’t find our Lord, but that doesn’t mean He isn’t there. He is just saying in times of silence. "Trust me" Psalm 23:4 says "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." David knew the Lord was there and would guide him no matter what. Proverbs 3:5-6 says; "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." God has not forsaken you. He is still there. Trust Him!

Quotes About Worship

But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”  John 4:23-24 (NKJV)
When I worship, I would rather my heart be without words than my words be without heart.” –  Lamar Boschman
Our entire being is fashioned as an instrument of praise. When we use body language to express praise, that which is internal becomes visible.” – Don McMinn

Picture a child crawling up into his father’s lap and cuddling with daddy. The child knows he or she  is safe in his father’s arms and trusts him. In those moments a Godly father would do or give anything beneficial to his child. That’s our God. When we worship Him in spirit and truth we are crawling up into Daddy’s lap to tell Him we love Him. He loves our worship. He is always more than ready to meet us there and supply our every need. – Gerry Desjardins
Then David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod. 2 Samuel 6:14 (NKJV)

O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. They did not come with an easy familiarity into the presence of God, but were aware of his greatness and majesty, and came with a sense of privilege to His house." H.H. Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:
      “ You are worthy, O Lord,[a]
      To receive glory and honor and power;
      For You created all things,
And by Your will they exist[b] and were created.” Revelation 4:9-11  (NKJV)
Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying:

“ You are worthy to take the scroll,
      And to open its seals;
      For You were slain,
And have redeemed us to God by Your blood
Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
       And have made us kings[e] and priests to our God;
And we shall reign on the earth.”

Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands,  saying with a loud voice:

“ Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
To receive power and riches and wisdom,
And strength and honor and glory and blessing!”

And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying:

“ Blessing and honor and glory and power
Be to Him who sits on the throne,
And to the Lamb, forever and ever!”

Then the four living creatures said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever. Revelation 5:8-14 (NKJV)

After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying:

“ Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom,
Thanksgiving and honor and power and might,
Be to our God forever and ever.
      Amen.”  Revelation 7:10-12 (NKJV)

Full Circle

Farrah Khalil
June 17, 2006

I awoke early in the morning on October 24, 2004 and took off my silver necklace that had the name, Allah, written on it in Arabic. It felt strange to not feel the silver plate dangling from my neck, but I knew that it was the right thing to do. As I unclasped the necklace I could feel a presence standing behind me. Even though this visitor was invisible, I knew that it was the devil. I was very scared, but at the same time felt the love and protection of God surrounding me.

“Please protect me, God,” I whispered as I turned around and walked to the kitchen.

Then in one swift movement I tossed my necklace into the trashcan. A feeling of intense relief came over me and I asked God to forgive me for the past seven years of my life.

My name is Farrah Khalil and at the age of 21 I denounced Christianity and converted to Islam. I was introduced to the Muslim faith when I was seventeen years old by my boyfriend, who is now my husband.

At first I thought the religion sounded crazy, because all I had ever known was Christianity. I would look at my husband’s mother and think that she was probably being forced to cover her hair and wear shapeless dresses that went all the way to her ankles. As the years went by I grew closer with my husband and his family. I began to love and respect his mother by watching the way she lived her life and treated others. She was one of the kindest and most moral women I had ever met. Suddenly, Islam did not seem so strange and surreal with its steadfast prayers, fasting, and rituals.

I began to read the Qur’an and other Islamic material his parents would give me with gusto. Then I would sit quietly and listen as my husband’s father picked apart the Bible in an effort to convince me that Christianity was wrong. Finally, after years of being brainwashed I decided to become Muslim.

I remember sitting in his parents’ bedroom with a black shawl covering my hair and converting to Islam at one o’clock in the morning. My parents were horrified when I told them and said that they were going to pray for me. I scoffed at their remarks and then tried to convince them that Islam was the right religion. I explained to them that Jesus was just a prophet and that, Allah, was the same God worshipped by the Christians and Jews. I told them that Islam was a beautiful and peaceful religion and that anyone who believed that Jesus was the son of God was going to hell.

I began to feel so strongly about my new faith that I taught myself how to read and write Arabic and learned many Islamic prayers that I would repeat until I had them down perfectly. My entire life became obsessed with praying five times a day and adhering to all the Islamic rituals. I could not go to sleep at night if I had not prayed the last prayer of the day, because I knew that Allah would punish me if I did not.

I began to live in a constant state of fear that became worse when I, my husband, and infant son moved to Egypt with his family. After a few months of residing in Cairo, I began to cover my hair. Nobody ever forced me to do it, but I had read that I would hang from my locks in hell if I flaunted it to the world. My fear of Allah became so intense that I hoped to get cancer and therefore be punished for my sins on earth instead of after death. I would cleanse my body for prayer so obsessively, that my hands became cracked and bloody. Still, I continued to believe in a religion that on the outside looked so moral and just.

There was also the fact that all of the Egyptian people I met were very humble and kind. I rationalized that these were the type of wonderful people that the Islamic faith produced. I completely blocked out the fact that I had subconsciously started to develop a tiny hatred for Jewish people by living in Cairo. This was due to comments I heard by random people as well as a shirt I saw an Egyptian man wearing one day. I will never forget the gray hooded shirt with a bloody knife stabbing through Israel detailed largely on the back. The shirt stopped me in my tracks and I think it was then that I started to question my Muslim faith.

We returned to America with a second son three years later, because I was becoming increasingly depressed living in Cairo. I thought being back in America with my family would lift my spirits, but I still felt scared and lost. I kept waiting for the inevitable to happen.

When I became pregnant with our third child I thought I would most likely die in childbirth as punishment for making my husband and family leave Egypt. I truly felt that I deserved whatever Allah was going to do to me. I remember praying fervently while I was in labor begging for my life and the life of my child. I was so happy and relieved when I left the hospital alive carrying a healthy baby girl in my arms.

Life went on as usual and I continued to practice Islam unfailingly until one night my husband received a very frightening e-mail that planted a tiny seed of thought in my mind. Someone had sent him the video of Nick Berg being beheaded via the internet. Although I refused to watch the horrific sight, I could still hear Nick Berg’s deathly screams as Islamic terrorists slowly sawed his head off. Even my husband, who was born a Muslim, seemed saddened and shocked as the hooded men chanted, “Allah Akbar,” while killing poor Nick Berg. I began to cry softly for Nick Berg and the terrorists who truly thought they were doing their duty to Allah by beheading another human being. I was confused and terrified as I tried desperately to block his screams out of my mind.

For the next week, I continued to pray five times a day, but instead of the word Allah, I substituted God. I figured that since I had been taught that Allah was just the Arabic word for God, it was okay. Then I did something that I told my parents and myself I would never do. I rented the movie, The Passion of The Christ. I told my husband that I just wanted to see what all the hype was about and he agreed.

We sat down that Saturday night and watched the movie together in silence. I could hardly stand to watch Jesus being beaten and whipped, but something told me to continue the movie until the end. I held back tears that threatened to fall from my eyes until the short scene in the movie when Mary Magdalene reverts back to the day when Jesus was the only person who would accept and love her. I began to cry as I suddenly realized what my mother had been trying to tell me for years.

Finally, I understood that God loved me and was not out to get me or do me harm. It was also at that moment that I knew that Allah was not God. The next week I could feel the devil trying to reel me back in with his scare tactics, but I was not afraid. Finally, I felt the love and protection of God all around me. I was no longer scared to live and no longer scared to die. The world looked so beautiful and I couldn’t stop thanking God for saving me.

I honestly believe that Allah is the devil. I can open the Qur’an to any random page and read something about death and hellfire to the infidels. I had overlooked it in the past, because I was concentrating more on the rituals and basic concepts of Islam. I failed to look at the core of the religion which I feel is based on evil. I think the Islamic faith is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. To some people it looks very wholesome and good from the outside, but at the same time produces terrorists and extremists who will die trying to kill anyone who is not a Muslim.

Please do not think that I feel that all Muslims are evil Satan worshippers, because this is far from the truth. Many Muslims I know are some of the kindest and loving people I have ever met. I love my husband’s family and know that their hearts’ are filled with the best intentions. I truly believe that they, along with millions of other Muslims, think that they are worshipping God.

I also believe that Satan lost a soldier when he lost me. My greatest asset when I used to preach Islam to anybody that would listen, was my physical appearance. I looked so different from what most people perceived as a stereotypical Muslim. I was a twenty-eight year old, white, American, female with light hair and green eyes who was walking around praising the Islamic faith. I was such a strong contrast to what people were used to picturing when they thought of a Muslim woman. I can only pray that I never convinced anyone to convert or think of converting to Islam.

It has only been two weeks since I was saved by Jesus Christ, and they have been the happiest two weeks of my life. Everyday that I wake up I am so grateful that God never left my side during my seven-year hiatus. I feel like he was just patiently waiting for my return. I now live my life with an inner peace and love for God that I cannot put into words.

Thank you Jesus for never leaving me.

Children: A Blessing or a Curse? -Updated

I read a startling statistic in a report on the family the other day. The average number of children per family in Canada is less than 2. That is not good news for our country. It means our population is shrinking. If it were not for immigration we would have a smaller population than before the last census. Another thing about that report that bothered me was that in 78% of all two parent families, both the father and mother went out to work. Being as we just picked up a new census this year, I am wondering what the new stats will show.

Small families and the mother working are relatively new things in society. They used to be the exception and not the norm. It was considered normal in my grandparents days for a family to have as many as 10 children and for the mom to be at home. They were not as materialistic as we are today and yet they were blessed. Mothers were very industrious in cooking and making clothes for the kids. Very much like the woman found in Proverbs chapter 31. They knew that God would supply, no matter how many children they had. They believed what the Bible said in Psalm 127:3 "Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward." The more children they had the more they were blessed.

Now most couples today don’t have time for children. They are too busy with the careers they have set for themselves. Always working and yet never satisfied with what they have. Society hasn’t helped as things change so quickly that many have to go to night school to keep up with the changes.

Feminist’s have told mothers that they need to get out and get a job because to stay home and raise children is slavery and women shouldn’t be tied down to that.

Abortion of children is common place thanks to men like Henry Morgantialer to thank, as that child would interfere with the woman’s or couple’s lifestyle. Thanks to abortion whole populations are beiing decimated. Countries are having to resort to immigration because of thier falling populations. Since they started keeping stats on abortion up to November of last year there has been 945,000,000 abortions. Almost 1 billion human lives snuffed out.

Children have become a curse. We are a selfish society that would rather let others raise our children. Which is why we have daycare. Then when these children grow up and turn their backs on us we ask "Why?" Those that dare to have large families and have mom staying at home are looked down upon as backward and yet the children from these families mostly are loyal and take care of their parents when they are older.

Can things change? I believe they can and God’s Word has the answer. Look at Psalm 127 in it’s entirety.

Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is useless. Unless the LORD protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones. Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him. Children born to a young man are like sharp arrows in a warrior’s hands. How happy is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates. (NLT)

This is radical and yet it works. Our Pastor and his wife just celebrated the birth of thier 9th child and another couple in our church is expecting their 7th. They are blessed and their children are a blessing not only to them but to us as well. So, where do children stand in your scheme of things? Is God building your house or are you? Children are precious in God’s sight, so be careful how you treat them. They have been lent to you to love and care for.

Wake Up World!

When are people going to wake up to a danger that is much greater than Nazism or communism? Radical Islamism is the greatest danger facing the world right now. Canadians woke up to that fact this past weekend with the arrest 17 Muslim Canadians who were plotting among many things, to blow up the Peace Tower, shoot their way into parliament and behead our prime minister. They also wanted to blow up many important buildings in Toronto. They won’t tell you this in the news but I believe with all my heart that one of the reasons their plot was discovered is because of the spiritual change that took place in Canada two weeks ago.  (see my blog; I Hear An Abundance of Rain). It’s no accident that the Peace Tower and our Prime Minister were considered as targets. Our Prime Minister is a Christian and the Peace Tower has scripture on it saying that the Lord would reign from sea to sea on it. Psalm 72:8. Canada is also a country were much freedom is enjoyed, a thing radical Muslims hate.

I have been reading some of the things that are coming out of Iraq lately and it is very disconcerting. People being killed for wearing shorts or selling falafels. Even for selling ice. Men with goatees are being targeted as well. Why? Because the Islamists say that those things didn’t exist in Mohammed’s day. (1) And the world turns a blind eye to it even to the point where Google has been banning those pages and news sites that dare to speak out against radical Islamism calling it hate literature.  I’ve checked those news sites and there is no hate there. The only thing they did was list stories that told about the dangers of radical Islamism. (2) Hey but try to find pages about that try tear down Christianity and it’s no problem. When is the last time you ever heard of a Christian who follows the teachings of Jesus strap on a bomb and go and blow people up? I haven’t heard anything about Christians who go out and behead people or shoot them through the head because they are not adhering to the teachings of Christ. Christianity and Radical Islam are opposite ends of the spectrum. Christianity espouses love while RI espouse s hatred. Islam was born out of rebellion. God predicted that the descendents of Ishmael would be against everyone. Genesis 16:11-13  Mohammed was a false prophet and their goal is to bring the entire world under their domination using fear and intimidation. Right now Israel is trying to seek peace with them and yet the RI will never settle for peace. They will not be satisfied until Israel ceases to exist and democratic freedom has been wiped out. It would not surprise me that the Anti-Christ may come out of an Islamic country.

Right now Europe is in danger of within the next ten years having of having Islamic governments in power because of the rampant immigration they have allowed to make up for their dying populations decimated by abortion. They are reaping what they have sown. The same things have been happening here in North America. Canada’s previous liberal government was not overly concerned with who they allowed into the country and what we are seeing now is a result of their policies. Montreal as a very high number of Muslims that have immigrated here as well. Two years ago after the Spanish train bombings, it was discovered on one of the terrorists computers the plans for Montreal’s subway system. Not even my own city is safe from these radicals.

Not all Muslims follow the radicals. They themselves must wake up before the radicals take over their religion. But in truth the only hope is in discovering that only Christ has the answers for them. Messages of hate are being preached in many of the mosques across Europe and North America. That has to change.

Pray for Canada. Pray for Israel, Europe and the States. Pray for those who have fallen into the trap of RI. Pray for Muslims around the world that their eyes would be opened to the fact that Jesus was not just a great prophet, but that He was God Himself, the second person of the Trinity, who gave his very life for them and all mankind. He said; “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but by Me.” John 14:6  There is no other way to salvation. If you ascribe to Islam especially RI there is no heaven for you. There are no virgins waiting for you. You have been lied to. In the end Islam and Mohammed will have to stand at the judgement seat and they will be found wanting. In the end the terrorists lose and Christ wins. Jesus is the only hope for the world. I tell you right now whoever you are, He loves you and cares about your life. Come to Him. He will never turn you away. Violence only begats violence, but Christ’s love wins every time.

Everbody Wants to Go to Heaven, But Nobody Wants to Die

Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interests] and take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying, also].

For whoever is bent on saving his [temporal] life [his comfort and security here] shall lose it [eternal life]; and whoever loses his life [his comfort and security here] for My sake shall find it [life everlasting]. Matthew 16:24-25 (Amplified Bible)

The very first line from David Crowder’s latest cd "A Collision" starts with the line; "Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die."

Ask anybody on the street if they think they are going to heaven and the majority of the people will say yes. Boy! Are they in for a shock! To most people death is a mystery and it brings them a lot of fear. It is the unknown. The only assurance we have of being with God in the afterlife is through Christ and Christ alone. He conquered death and the grave. No one has ever done that. But there is a cost in recognizing His sacrifice and declaring Him to be your Lord. It is death. Death to yourself and your desires. All your hopes and dreams must die.

I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains [just one grain; it never becomes more but lives] by itself alone. But if it dies, it produces many others and yields a rich harvest.

Anyone who loves his life loses it, but anyone who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. [Whoever has no love for, no concern for, no regard for his life here on earth, but despises it, preserves his life forever and ever.] John 12:24-25 (Amplified Bible)

Dying to yourself is not an easy task. He wants your heart because the heart is our seat of all our desires. He wants to sit upon that seat. It requires trust. It requires surrendering.

Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?" So Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’"And he answered and said to Him, "Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth." Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, "One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me." But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!" And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, "Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." And they were greatly astonished, saying among themselves, "Who then can be saved?" But Jesus looked at them and said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible." Then Peter began to say to Him, "See, we have left all and followed You." So Jesus answered and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first." Mark 10:17-31 (NKJV)

The real issue with the rich young rule was not his riches but his heart. Was he willing to die to all he possessed? The riches were tied to his heart. Matthew 6:21 says; For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. That treasure could be anything. It could be your family, job, possessions or many other things. Christ alone has to be your treasure. Christ alone needs to rule over your heart. But to surrender your treasure and die to your desires means gaining much more than this world could ever provide for you. Through dying, you find life, abundant life. Jesus told Peter that anyone who gives up the treasures of this such as family and possessions (giving up them having first place in your heart) would find a hundredfold blessing. It just takes trust and a child like heart.

How much trust do you put in Christ? Are you willing to surrender all to Him? Our pastor used a very good example using some of the students in our school. He told them to stand with their backs facing him. He then told them when he was behind them to fall backwards. Some didn`t because they were afraid. Those who trusted were caught before they hit the ground. That is what keeps many of us form receiving the blessings that God has for us. Fear. Fear of losing everything and winding up with nothing. The funny thing is that fear is the one thing that will cause you at the end of your life to wind up with nothing. God has never failed once in His promises. He is not about to start with you. Are you willing to die today so that you may find life and that life more abundantly?

I am looking for someone who would like to partner with me in translating my blog into French. Quebec French. You would think with a name like Desjardins I would be bilingual. Unfortunatly that is not the case.
