Foolishness

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written:
   "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."

20Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.

26Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29so that no one may boast before him. 30It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord." 1 Cor. 1:18-31

This passage that I read this morning in my devotions is pretty self-explanatory. Unless God opens the eyes of a non-believer, he or she will think of us as fools. The message of the cross is so different from everything else the world teaches. Christians are the most persecuted and mocked group in the world today. We along with the Jews bear the brunt of this world’s scorn and hatred. Why? Because through us the message of truth is shown to the world. But the fact is this world and most of it’s people are blind and will never see the truth.

And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 2 Cor. 4:3-5

Satan is the god of this world. He is the one who hates us and the Jews. The Jews because they are the nation that God used to bring salvation to the world through His Son Jesus Christ and to us because we have found that message and carry it to the world. Satan will try everything to wipe us off the face of the earth and can I tell you that the persecution of Christians around the world will increase. Will you stand for Him no matter what happens? We are strangers and aliens in this world. This is not our home and though I may be a Canadian citizen, my true citizenship is in heaven. We must stand in the truth we have been given. Too many churches and denominations are now compromising and are no longer standing in that truth. They have embraced the lie. We can not look to or hope to be accepted by this world because it never will accept us. They will always hate us and human nature is such that you always hate that which you don’t understand. We can’t compromise the gospel to win the world’s favour.

Jesus said in John 15:19: If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

Rejoice in the message of the cross today. Even though you may look foolish. Even though others may laugh at you and ridicule you and believe me they will, because they don’t understand. So dance, sing and let them see the light you have been given and many eyes and hearts that are around you may just be opened to that light and truth and become a fool just like us.

Greetings brother in Christ,May the words of Paul from Ephesians 5, to live as children of light, be in your heart this day.“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and love a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”“Be very careful then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.”God bless you and your loved ones in the joys and trials that the Lord provides us. May your ministries give glory to Him. May we all be encouraged in the Word this Sunday.

  2. That really is spooky

  3. Hallelujah. It\’s funny. The most honest and real people that I meet in my walk with God are the gangsters, prostitutes and people who have been through devastating situations are involved in horrible sins. I get along really well with them, but it\’s when I come back to the church I have the problem. The church is full of the best liars, decievers, misleaders and manipulators in the world. They use the gospel of Christ to suit their own ends. Jesus said we will know them by their fruits. He who sows to the flesh will reap destruction. Watch for the fruits of destruction in those you receive from.Thank God for the sanity-check of His Spirit, His Word, and His chosen people.Hallelujah.Jason

  4. yeah thanks…i dont think hes wrapped too tightly..hehe..well yeah.hehebye

  5. No I meant Jeff quoting from Ephesians 5 was spooky. Second time it\’s cropped up on this space.

  6. Thank you so much for your words here! My husband and I have become the "black sheep" of our family. They all think we are weird and are mad at us. Simply because we now see the light. Rejection hurts, but Jesus was rejected first and a servant isnt higher then his master. Thanks again

Hello Gerry,Today I am rejoicing in the message of the cross, and feeling like a fool , hehe. I think the best thing is to not be a man pleaser, but a God lover. It is amazing how the fear of man can bind us up.Thanks Gerry for your studies, and I do agree with Jason Lochan. The church is undergoing a reality check , the fruit of the spirit cannot be imitated, as we know the true believers by their fruit. For those who have been forgiven much, love much! the reality of the cross, praise God for His awesome love…… and forgiveness….. 🙂 Netty.

  8. Just making my rounds, and wanted to make sure I stopped by with my greetings.May God bless you as you continue spreading His Word.Have a great weekend in the Lord.

  9. Hi Gerry, I decided to post something on forgiveness myself after the incident that followed your posting. hopefully I\’ve covered the ground that was needed.BlessingsN

  10. "There is a beast inside a man that is meant to be excersised, not exorsised." -Anton Szandor LaVeyI suggest you take that quote into consideration. Y\’know, think it over. I think you could use a reality check.

  11. Hi Gerryif you could remember me in prayer i could really use it.todays sermon was really good. it was about how christmas is about longing. longing for Christ\’s return and Isreal longing for a messiah. that all of us have a longing and only God can fullfill this thirst.Erika

  12. °Bat_Country°When I was like you, yes I needed a reality check. If you rely on the writings of a satanist, you really do need one.Reality is found in Christ and Christ alone. I suggest you dig into who He is.

  13. hi wassup, i am just a stranger on the internet who also has a space. I wonder you know Paul Johnson, of the C.C.S.B, Canadian Convention of Southern Baptists? just wonderin.
