Behold, the LORD’S hand is not so short that it cannot save; nor is His ear so dull that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear. Isaiah 59:1-3

Sin separates and always carries a cost. Yet many Christians make excuses for continuing in sin. We can understand that some of the younger ones would struggle in the same way as a baby learns to walk, those who are new to Christ have to learn to walk through the teaching of the word and the Holy Spirit. But there are those who have supposedly known Christ for years and yet they still struggle with sin. Many make excuses as to why they can’t change and use grace and the great love that God has for us as an excuse to continue. Paul said in Romans 6:

1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?

2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?

3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?

4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

5 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection,

6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;

7 for he who has died is freed from sin.

8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,

9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him.

10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.

11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,

13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.

14 For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!

16 Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?

17 But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed,

18and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

19 I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification.

20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.

21 Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is death.

22 But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life.

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Even though sin will not stop God’s love for us, what it does is allow a hardness and a dullness to come in. The longer we stay in that sin the harder it is for us to hear God’s voice. His love seems to feel distant even though He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. It is us who forsake Him. We ignore the prompting of the Holy Spirit that we are headed in the wrong direction and our hearts begin grow cold and hard towards the things of God. His love for us becomes a distant memory. We even find ourselves blaming God for our condition and saying if He really loved me, He would deliver me from this. The fact is He did deliver you from all sin but through self deception you have returned to the vomit which He found you in. God will never force you to stop sinning. That would violate our will and that is something that He can’t do. He will do all He can to gently try and persuade you from sinning, but if your mind is made up He won’t stand in your way. We have to choose to serve Him or not. To sin or not to sin. To love Him or scorn Him. The further you go, the angrier you get and eventually you begin to curse God and then finally turn your back on Him becoming much worse than the condition He found you in. Angry, bitter and lost. You even wonder why you even believed in God to begin with. You exchange the truth of God for a lie. Understand that God has not changed, you have. His love for you has remained constant all through it. His arms always remain open for you. The Father waiting for the prodigal son. There is not a single soul that is in hell that God wanted there. They made the choice themselves through rejecting His love and mercy.

Do you want to change? Then tell Him. Be honest with Him and yourself. A sincere heart always gets God’s attention. Understand that when the Lord is speaking to Israel He is also speaking to the church and the individual. He says in Jeremiah 29:11-14a "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back from your captivity."

No matter how far you have fallen, He is ready to take you back at the drop of a hat. You are His child. Seek Him with all your heart, mind and strength. If you notice hardness beginning to settle in take drastic actions before it’s too late. Don’t listen to the lie that you have gone too far and you can’t turn back. As long as you are still convicted in some way of your sin you are in a good position and you need to cry out him. He says; "Return, O backsliding children," says the LORD; "for I am married to you. I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion. And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding." Jeremiah 3:14-15

You are His treasure. His jewel. Christ gave His all for you. You have become one with Him and He will never give you up. He will pursue you right to the end.

Comments on: "God’s Pusuit 3 – The Consequences of Staying In Sin" (23)

  1. speechless and true, feel a little like you are sharing some tough love,or maybe it\’s God just speaking though youthose who have ears to hear, let them hear….Gerry, i "HEAR" .

  2. Gerry,Wow. Thank God that I hear also. I believe that the hardened heart is the unforgiveable sin. Because it will no longer seek forgiveness.I am in awe of all that God is doing…Jason

  3. Thanks Gerry, awesome points and it impacted me a lot!You can put a link here if ya want, i\’ve got no problem with that. Thanks for asking before you did though!God bless you and know that I am prayin\’Cass

  4. I\’ve been in that place before-where you blame god for your wrong doing and the consequences that follow, but knew in my heart it was me who made it happen and me who had to accept that I was wrong and that God would forgive me if I asked him to.Great blog.I love that icon-Take a stand for jesus. It seems nowadays through media etc. Taking a stand for jesus is an uncool thing to do and if you do you must be some bible wacko. Why can\’t Hollywood and the media make it a positive thing to live your life through God and instead of making it a weak thing rather a strong thing. Even when it comes to holidays like Christmas people aren\’t supposed to say Merry Christmas like it\’s some tainted saying. Seems so backwards to me!Anyways me two cents worth. Have a great weekend everyone and god bless!

  5. A wonderful post… I thank GOd for using this to speak into my life… I have felt a little distant from GOd recently… one thing that he has revealed is the TV I watch… as you probably know there is a lot of filth out there on the screen… and I have allowed it to creep into and control my time and life better spent elsewhere… praise the Lord that He is always there to receive us when we repent and turn back to Him.BTW, thx for the comments on the Bible version issue… it was very informative and useful… now that you mention it, the speaker was using a lot of emotive and different inflections in his voice to put down ALL other versions except for the KJV.

  6. l-Man-Made-God-l-Too bad you couldn\’t get your comments off without swearing. The way a person uses words tells me much about their intelligence. The crusades, holy wars and other things that people like to blame followers of Christ were done for greed and power and were against the teachings of Jesus. Religion kills my friend, but Jesus came to bring life and truth. One thing you can thank God for about the crusades is that it stopped the advance of Isalm in it\’s tracks or else today you would be in a muslum country without the freedom you have to do the things you want. Think about it.

  7. I like this entry 🙂

  9. the lump in my throat just says it all. i have been there, and never want to be there again. and i see it so much with friends of mine that "said" they were christians and now what they do in their lives shows absolutely nothing of Christ. I am trying with them to come back, but they are choosing not to listen. Thank you for this message Gerry.Blessings,Bethany.

If you didn\’t even meat jesus, then how can you love him? Love is a word used for people you know! Another thing is that jesus wasn\’t put on a cross, if he was how did they make the hole? They didn\’t have post-hole oggers! And he was naled to a tree, people didn\’t do crosses back then! Haa!!!!…….

  11. Beautiful explaination….thank you for sharing :)God bless you and your family!!

  12. The ReeperI have met Jesus and if you would meet Him too you would love Him as I and millions of others do.Agape is the love between man and God and is the most important of all loves.Crucifixion was used a means of death before Christ was even born. http://www.centuryone.org/crucifixion2.html

  13. Hey dude. Look, I see that you really belive in God and Jesus. So I thought I could trust you in asking you this question: Is God real? \’Cause I was wondering if he was for a long time.Thx

  14. (removed for privacy) God is definetly real! He\’s healed me and touched my life in more ways that I could ever count. The Bible says that the heaven\’s declare the glory of God. I suggest you find a bible and read the bbok of John and ask Jesus to show Himself to you. I can assure you He will. He said that He would be found by you if you seek Him with all your heart.I\’ll be praying for you.

  15. l-Man-Made-God-lAgain you\’re showing your lack of intellegence. If you could talk without swearing, maybe, just maybe you might get some answers and your comments won\’t be deleted.

Hi Gerry,Thank you for the wonderful messages you write on your site. They are an inspiration for Christians both young and old. God bless you as you employ your gifts towards Him.

  17. This is such an important message!I was watching the christain television network on the life of C.S. Lewis. I find myself more interested in his other works. The message was similar to this one. People reject God because they cannot admit they are sinners. Not very many people like to admit their mistakes. I find that especially for abuse survivors, we can spend many years blaming God for who we are, and the choices we make. Just because we were abused, doesnt mean that we don t sin or arent responsible for our sins. Not a single human person is without it.By coming to Christ and seeking Him out, there becomes a desire in us to not want to sin. To do what is right in the sight of God. Unbelievers dont acknowledge any of this. Theres that old saying, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.Erika

how i was brought up was that there is a God.. But in my teenage years I stopped believing in him and I thougt that it was all just a story.. But when u think of it.. There is a God.. Because… When you are in trouble and you don\’t know where to go.. Who leads you out of it?? (If u listen) When you are about to do something very stupid like killing yourself… Who changes your mind (if you listen).. Ya.. .It\’s God.. And well he does it in different ways of helping you out.. LIke sending someone there to take the wepon from you.. Getting a different job if you have no money to put food on the table for yourself and your family.. It\’s God.. Just remember.. You will loose your faith in God sooner or later from something stupid.. Like a boyfriend or girlfriend dumping you.. Or something,… But if you sit back and think of everything that has happend to you.. You will know that there is a God.. Not some lie.. he is there and he loves you.. Loves you more then anyone in this world.. Just remember… Sometime in life you will get mad and stop believing in God. But if you think of everything.. You will remember that there is a God..

  19. I used to have a problem with the verse in Mark that mentioned blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. I didn\’t understand it properly and I was tormented by the devil because of it. However, it was eventually explained that the unforgivable sin as described by Mark is a "continual denial of God\’s grace." The pharisees who Jesus was rebuking were looking at something good that God was doing and they were accrediting it to evil. As it has already been said, this comes from a hardened heart. I urge people to taste and see that the Lord is good… before their hearts become to hardened to acknowledge it.Coincidentally I\’ve just discovered that a person I help teach has had a similar problem and may need much prayer. When they were younger somebody gave them a book that supposedly contained "magic spells". In fact it was full of satanic worship. They got rid of this but there is still some fall out and baggage form the time they had it. The important thing is that God has whispered to them that He loves them no matter what they may have done. He is telling them that they is forgiven. However, having had a similar type of struggle (even if the catalyst is not the same), I know how important it is for the problem to be sealed off. Unitl peace is restored in that person\’s heart, that wound will always be a doorway. They need to accept fully what God is saying… but they also need to have it pointed out to them that if God says yopu are clean then you are clean.

  20. Ciao Gerry,Stopping in for a visit and also to wish you a Great Day.God Bless YouLoveShelleyxXx

  21. wow. i\’ve really been struggling a lot with sin lately, and i just want you to know how much of an encouragement your thingamabob was to me. (nice little banner thing btw). thanx. keep smiling!
