For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.

At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Saviour, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone. Titus 3:1-8

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 1 John 4:7-12

Fred Phelps is the leader of a cult that calls itself the Westboro Baptist Church. The main focus of his so-called ministry is the hatred of homosexuals. But he also teaches to hate among other things: Blacks, Jews, America and Christians. He has also declared that Mister Rogers an, ordained minister, has gone to hell. I’m sure you have seen him on television or the net over the last few years holding up signs at protest such as "God Hates Fags" and other quite disturbing placards. He called himself a friend of Iraq and Saddam Hussain before the war and has called the terrorist bombings around the world God’s judgement against the fags. He calls himself a modern day prophet and says that he is a voice crying in the wilderness. He is a false prophet! Much of his teaching is taken from the Old Testament and one has to ask; How would Jesus react to this man? He is very much like the pharisees of old. Hatred has never won one soul to Christ and never will.

Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live? Ezekiel 18:23

God never takes any pleasure in sending anybody to hell, but it is sin that separates them from God. Sin cannot abide in His presence because of His holiness. It is the sin that God hates because it separates Him from His creation. But He has provided a way of escape though His Son Jesus Christ.

"The Lord . . . is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance" 2 Peter 3:9.

One wonders how Mr. Phelps would have reacted to the woman found in the act of adultery. I can see him picking up a stone getting ready to throw it. Or what would he have said to the woman at the well who had, had several different husbands? What about the protitute washing Jesus’ feet with her hair? One has to wonder if He would ever be able to hold a dying AIDs patient in his arms telling that person of God’s love and mercy towards them. Would he be able to go into the ghetto’s and slums and bring a message of hope? I know that’s where you’d find Jesus.

While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and "sinners" came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and ‘sinners’?"

On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." Matthew 9:10-13

So where is Mr. Phelps mercy with the grieving members of the families of those men and women who died in the service of their country. No where! Instead he disrupts them with protests and calls them fags. As a matter of fact he calls anyone who disagrees with him fags. The bible says that you shall know them by their fruit and I can tell you the fruit put out by Mr. Phelps is rotten and it stinks.

This man is leading a dangerous cult and he is bringing much shame to the body. He needs to be shut down before it gets much worse.

I leave the final words to Jesus.

"You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:43-48

  1. i have a question for you….what can you do for a fallen friend, if they don\’t want anything to do with God… pretty much all i can think of is pray… but it gets so discouraging sometimes because it seems like nothing is happening and that they are just straying further…

  2. You and I may be in disagreement on a number of issues, but this is one that we\’re totally on the same page. I did an entry on my blog several months back about Phelps on the very issue you mentioned — the Iraq war. For me, the last straw (and what me compelled me to write my rant) was when he libeled Crown Princess Charlotte of Sweden and said she was a lesbian. At least one person said in reply if he or she wondered if Phelps might have issues of his own.I don\’t know about that. I am, however, a product of the Catholic school system. One theme that was taught over and over in religion class was to hate the sin but love the sinner. I can\’t for the life of me understand how Phelps and his ideologues think it holier to hate the sinner also. I am by no means perfect, but I know I found myself at much greater inner peace when I started forgiving again.I pray for Phelps\’ conversion and repentance, but to be quite honest I\’m not holding my breath either.I leave this thought with some words taken from the Mass for Reconciliation: Father, all powerful and ever living God, we praise and thank you through Jesus Christ our Lord for your presence and action in the world. In the midst of conflict and division, we know it is you who turn our minds to thoughts of peace. Your Spirit changes our hearts: enemies begin to speak to one another, those who were estranged join hands in friendship, and nations seek the way of peace together. Your Spirit is at work when understanding puts an end to strife, when hatred is quenched by mercy, and vengeance gives way to forgiveness.

  3. Sorry, it was Crown Princess Victoria.

  4. Just wanted to let everybody know that my brother underwent his surgery this morning. It ended up being very lengthy lasting a grueling 5 hours. Doctors were able to successfully remove the cancerous kidney. They were unable to see the other kidney though. They did not have to remove his spleen like they thought they may have to. So praise God for that!!!! He is in an extreme amount of pain and doctors have him on morphine. They are going to get him up walking tomorrow to get the blood circulating to prevent clotting. The doctors feel all was very successful and the prognosis is very good to resume a cancer free life. Glory be to God …………..I want to thank everybody for their heartfelt prayers upholding my brother and my family in prayer. I ask that you continue to believe with me in the prayer of agreement that he will make a complete and full recovery being able to gain his strength back to resume a normal life. He stands in much need of prayer not only for his health but also for the custody battle over his little girl Aubrenna. This situation is still a big mess and there is alot to be worked out. I ask that you continued to remember this in your prayers. I will keep you posted on his recovery……………. In Christ,Andy

  5. Maybe somebody should go to his website and take him on… using nothing but scripture to attack his views. Sadly I think he would not listen and would probably utter "curses" against his attackers.

  6. Just out of curiosity, are you a Catholic priest or are you Baptist? Or something else…

  7. there have been people like this phelps guy as long as there have been people. we pray for them, but we also block their propaganda with prayer and faith, and build hedges of protection around vulnerable people. we have to show him love in the face of his hate and anger. and after a while, if he doesnt budge, we tell him we are taking away the protection of our prayers and let him reap his whirlwind. that will either turn him around or take him out, depending on how he responds.s. lizard

And the government will rest on his shoulders, these will be his titles, "wonderful councelor" Mighty God" * Everlasting Father* Prince of Peace* so i know no matter what he has for me, our Lord is with us and that gave me such Joy, when i cannot seem to go on! (My hope just keeps me going,) Hugs and Prayers Gerry for you and your family always Verna, God Bless you ever so*In His Precious Holy Name Jesus the Christ*****

  12. wickedawesomechickengal,Hi! Unfortunately, praying is often the only thing left to do when they want nothing to do with God. That, and listening to what God tells you to do for and say to that person. Pretty often though, when all is said and done, you just fast and pray for that person, then wait patiently and stop worrying about it. God does great wonders even if we don\’t see any sign of it. Keep the faith my friend, and don\’t get discouraged!!! Cath 🙂

  13. Heyy I haven\’t been here in ages… I think I say that every time now. With regard to this issue, I particularly like the way you related what he was doing to what Jesus would do and what Jesus did do. Ultimately its God who will judge in all righteousness, condemning people to hell is already dangerous. It\’s almost as if taking God\’s role, and all prophets, as he claims he also is a prophet, have taken the role of a servant. And he\’s not coming as a servant, he\’s coming as a judge with no authority to judge sins.I think there have always been people like this and there will always be people like this, but it is important to note what they do, because the more we realise what is wrong, the more we can avoid it. We have to pray that especially in these end times, that God will grant us wisdom and that we may "hold on to what you have, so that nobody may take your crown".God bless all
