Be a Fool

There are many arguments that are raised up against believers and the bible. Some are quite good and if it were not for the fact that I have had a personnel encounter with the living God my fleshly nature might have been persuaded. The fact is that even though the world tries to make good arguments, they are wrong or full of half-truths. They come from a carnal point of veiw and not from the Spirit. The only thing that matters is eternity and where you will spend it. Brothers and sisters, we are considered fools by this world and the world will never understand where we are coming from unless the Spirit of God draws them and opens up their eyes to the truth of the cross.

18For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."

20Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.

26Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things——and the things that are not——to nullify the things that are, 29so that no one may boast before him. 30It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God——that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord." 1 Corinthians 1:18-21

Before I came to know Christ as my Saviour, I put more stock in astrology than I did in the bible. Oh I thought the bible had lots of nice things to say and I tried to live by its commandments, but to me it was just a really good book.

Then one day, at 25 years old, I surrendered my life to Christ. I had my grandfather’s old bible up in my closet and I took it down to read it. It was like a light was turned on. It became real. It became alive. It seemed every single word was reaching out to me. It all made sense and I knew then it was more than just a good book. It was the living word. Why the change? Because God’s Spirit took up residence in me. His Spirit connected with mine.

Non-believers accuse us of taking scriptures out of context when the truth is that it is God’s Word and He can use it in anyway He wants to. To them it may not make sense, but to us who have His Spirit, it makes perfect sense.

There are also many who claim to be Christians but are not, simply because they have never had an encounter with Christ. They know of Him, but they don’t know Him. There is a big difference. They don’t have the Spirit who brings all understanding. They may have read the bible through 15 times, they may have been raised in a Christian home, they may have gone to Sunday School, and they may have even been a pastor or leader. But unless they know Him, unless they have that encounter with the Living God, their understanding is darkened.

These people have a lot of trouble understanding where we are coming form. They can’t comprehend our stands on abortion, homosexuality, and many other subjects because unless they have the Spirit, it is all foolishness to them and we are nothing but fools. We will always be at odds with them. But take heart, we have been given the mind of Christ.

6We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9However, as it is written:

"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"

10but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 14The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment:

16"For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?"But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:6:16

Don’t be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ. You may be laughed at, mocked and ridiculed in many ways. But, it is all worth it. Do all things in love and not out of selfish ambition. Be a fool.

  1. Hi, GerryI agree that it would be better to be called a fool by people, than to be called a fool by the one who holds my destiny in his hands. (The includes both temporal and eternal destiny.) Some thoughts that define fool for me include:Finding Our Own Lies SignificantFabricating Our Own Life Story (lying to ourselves about who we really are.)Forgeting Our Only Loving SaviourThese are all examples of what I consider:Finishing One\’s Only Life Independant (of our) Saviour\’s HospitalityPhilo

  2. By hospitality, I am referring to his desire to have fellowship with us, and that he will come and bring us to where he is. Just in case I needed to clarify.Philo

  3. (paraphrased)Grampa\’s Old Bible"I had my grandfather\’s old Bible tucked away up in my closet When I took it down to read it it was like a light was turned on For me, it became real and Alive!!!Every single word was reaching out to me. It all made sense and I knew, then I knew it was more than just a good bookIt was the living word to me His Spirit took up residence His Spirit connected with mine in that moment in time I encountered the message in the pages of Grampa\’s old bibleJesus introduced Himself to me!couldn\’t resist Gerry…..I could hear a love song refrain in the words of your devotion~To Him!JOY in the HOLY GHOST!Sherra

  4. I was going to post this in the abortion topic, but realised it would be looked over due to the sheer number of comments you receive here, so i posted it in this, your latest blog entry instead:Fact: You possess all the qualities of a cult leader. i guess its a good thing you\’re absolutely 100% correct in what you believe, that way you can call people, who for whatever reason have had an abortion, murderers. What the hell happened to "LET HE WHO HAS COMMITTED NO SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE" you hypocrite!? If some woman has had an abortion shes gonna be feeling bad about it without you accusing her of murder.Look to your God and he will tell you that no matter how "noble" your motives are in demonising abortion, it does not warrant accusing women of murder. I don\’t agree with abortion, however i dont believe it warrants you abusing people for it.

  5. –chard-, Gerry\’s words are a kindness compared to what God will say to those who commit this crime, and remain unrepentant. Take your argument up with Him.Jason

  6. Gerry, Awesome message my brother! If it\’s not funny to God, it\’s not funny to me.Jason

  7. –chard-Sometimes being hit with the truth is the best thing that can happen to a person. I pray that through my message on abortion many women and those that have advocated it have repented and come to the knowledge that they are loved by their creator in spite of their sin. That forgiveness is found in Him. You can call me and all other believers what ever you want. The only leader we follow is Jesus Christ. I have followed men and believe me, man will always let you down, but Jesus never. I have no desire to be a leader. The only thing I want to do is point to my Saviour and say "follow Him."I want you to know I take no offense at your words. I pray you the find the truth chard. I pray that you come to the realization how much Christ loves you and how much you need Him.

  8. I have to say that I do have a hard time believing in God. I mean I used to go to church as a child and stuff, and I have even read parts of the bible, but I just have so many unanswered questions and it all makes it so very confusing. Not only that but wouldn\’t it be a contradictory for me to believe in God when, according to the bible, I sin every day. I am a lesbian and according to the book of Leviticus that makes me a sinner. What I dont understand sir is how something that feels so beautiful to me is a sin. The fact that I love a woman shouldn\’t make a difference than if I loved a man. So yes I am confused. I am also confused at the fact that there is so much suffering in the world. I myself have gone through a world of suffering with starving, being abused both emotionally, and sexually. I do understand that without suffering that people would not be able to be compassionate, but I just think that there is a limit to how much a person should have to go through. I want to believe that there is something or someone that is almighty and truly forgiving and compassionate, but I just dont know if I would be able to make the sacrifises that would come with that. To beleive in something that pretty much condems me to eternal hell seems almost as though I am not proud of who I am. The fact is that I am very proud of who I am. So if you have any answers to these questions could you please leave me a comment on my space. Thank you for your time.

  9. Hi Gerry, well i could not even comprehend all that you say about fools, O you are so directed by his holy spirit, and you know the word of God, it even convicted me, after i became a christian as i read the Bible, i would even get up in the middle of the night and study about the Holy Spirit and it overwhelmed me so because it is not just to be saved but to know the lord as God the Father, God the Son and God the HOly Spirit, without true faith we can not recieve i spirit, That is just how i recieved it and understood, God just came and showered me with his truth there after, Im still learning as he guides me, I sure learn from you direction, well it is all Gods Glory as he uses you for the lost and those who say, (I\’m christian) and still reject his truth and turn the scripture to suit todays ways of the world imagine God already knew so long ago how it is to be, oh it frightens me, But it also reveals to me what an awsome Almighty, Holy, all knowing God we serve and you do serve him, to bring Glory, honor and praise! Who is all worthy Of His CROWN!Amen! I see the worthyness of what you endure and stand so strong on his word, it never is returned void, Gods word is a two edged sword, imagine people litterly walk around with the real sword to do their battles, where as Gods Holy spirit is our sword which lives in our hearts, Im so overwhelmed with this knowldge in my heart ! Many heartfelt Blessings and prayers to you and your wonderful Family, his Grace just never ceases (eternal). Thank you again my brother in Christ!

  10. Hey just wanted to stop by and say hey!! You don’t know me I don’t know you. I love your space it has a lot of potential and I hope you will come visit me read a couple blogs, sign my guestbook, and just have a good time laughing at my October 2nd blog and maybe even visit some of the peoples sites that are on my spaces I’ve visited list and get to know them too. Well got to fly c ya Megan

  11. Hi nutzgemini The thing about sin is that it is very deceptive. A lot of what people claim as love, is in reality lust, which is based more on feelings than anything else. I visited your space and you are a very beautiful young woman that I believe God has a plan for. I bet you have a lot of great qualities that a young man may be looking for as well. God loves you Irresa. He wants the best for you. It is not God that sends people to hell, it is our sin. Sin seperates us from God. Yes we all sin everyday and the only one who is perfect is the Lord. It is only through the shedding of Christ\’s blood on the cross that we can find freedom from it. Don\’t ever think that you have gone too far that you can\’t come back to Him. He is reaching out to you even now. That\’s why you wound up at my space.I will be praying for you. Please come back and visit again and let me know how you are doing.Take care.Gerry

  12. I am glad that you are preeching the gospal. Many people get saved and turn thier love to God because of you space. May God bless and yor family.

  13. Gerry, I\’m certainly flattered because I feel this post was a direct result of my constant nagging..St. Paul, of course, was a man who was obtaining support for his religion,..I\’m not here to turn your post into a forum of debate….I\’ve left a response on my space if you wanted to see my view. We\’ll never see eye to eye on some opinions, but I certainly grant you the respect to listen to yours….anyhow….again, I\’m flattered.

  14. Thanks for visiting. You are welcome to link my site if you want to.

  15. And thanks for the encouragement.

Amen, what more is there to say?

  17. God bless you GerryAMEN !!! It all comes down to "What are you going to do with Jesus? It\’s not complicated or mysterious. God is love.He is the only one who proved His love. Now that is powerful. It\’s good to be a fool for Christ.

  18. Thanks for the awesome sharing… indeed… even as the world hated the light-bringer… so it continues to hate the ones that bears His light… it is a spiritual battle out there… so we must remain vigilant and ready to defend our faith when people ask of the hope that is in us.

  19. Gerry, The abortion thing is not a fair subject in the eyes of god or anyone. abortion should most definitly be a choise in any country and place because, do you rilly think that some one who wants to kill there child would be a very good mother. I dont the right to have kids now is very stupid people that live in the projects and are on welfair get more money the more kids they have, so they pop out more kids that end up being drug dealers and gun pushers and gang members you think the world is bad now imagin how bad it is going to get.i dont like the idea but it is un avodible, peace and love, Jeff

  20. Hi…this has nothing to do with the entry you posted, I just come here from time to time since I\’ve discovered your space and I have a question for you…I\’ve been christian for a couple of years (3-4) now and before I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior, I was always depressed and had suicidal thoughts…Now that I am christian, it still comes from time to time, to a point where I just broke down at work and a coworker asked me if I ever thought of consulting (I didn\’t cry in front of her, she found me like that…). I am a christian, I love Jesus!…then why am I feeling so down? It\’s like, there is the real world and then, there\’s what\’s going on in my head and it\’s not pretty. I feel like everybody hates me deep down inside and I\’m never going to be good at anything…I somehow know that this can\’t be true but it\’s the feeling I have, like I don\’t belong anywhere…I\’m so tired of living like this! I prayed, I fasted and even got therapy from a christian psychologist…what is there left to do??? Thank you so much for your time, I really need an answer!!! me.

  21. This verse would have stood out to me so much even if you had not bolded it; "The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. "I think this is where the "wise" become foolish. One cannot look at the bible like just another philosophy book, because God is real and so is his love, and when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and are filled with his holy spirit, we become spiritually discerned. Then, we will no longer be like those:"though seeing, they may not see;though hearing, they may not understand" Luke 8:10So I hope all those that are reading Gerry\’s site now and have not yet accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior will do so and be able to see things as Gerry puts it with "the mind of Christ" and no longer with the mind of this world.

  22. –no one needs to knowActually I think people would like to know your name. I really recommend you buy the book "Happiness is a lifestyle" Its a very good christian psych. book and I happen to know it will help you. God bless…

  23. no one needs to know,My uncle goes through chronic depression. He has been on antidepressants his whole life. He pastors a church, and certainly is not lacking in his walk with God. I don\’t know how someone can be depressed, even when they know God, but I know that you arn\’t alone.

  24. no one needs to know,Ok. I\’ve got something to say about this and it\’s not very pretty. But if you\’re open to really solving this problem, I hope you can read and take in what is said, from someone who has gone through the exact same thing. Ok. Ready? Here we go…The problem is pride. There are two sides to pride. The side that puffs itself up and thinks that it is more than it actually is. This type of pride excuses itself from the basics of serving God, ie: forgiveness, bitterness, religiousness etc. But then there is the other side: Unworthiness. Unworthiness says that you’re not good enough, and you\’re less than everyone else, and that you\’ll never amount to anything. The problem with this is that it excuses us from rising up to what God expects from us. He expects us to shine, to trust, to believe, to have faith, to move mountains. But if we feel we don\’t measure up, we\’ll never even attempt it. When we allow ourself excuses, we are walking in pride. In my walk with God, I\’ve seen many people who were "better than me", they would fly right by me, and seemingly do the right things at the right times with a natural ease that defied my understanding. They were perfect in my eyes. I secretly envied them, but at the same time I hated myself for not measuring up to the standard that they were at. I measured myself against a man. When I allowed this into my heart, it became difficult to worship, because I was always aware of the people around me. If I would lift my hands to God, I felt like everyone in the room must have noticed, and thought in their minds that I\’m not sincere, or I\’m trying to put on a show, or that I just look plain stupid. The Presence of God in my life gradually started to decrease, until I found myself a spectator during a worship service rather than a worshipper of God.I walked with this constant internal terror, as if I was constantly in the wrong. My words were not thoughts, but apologies for who I was. This slowly spiralled out of control, I would lie on pillow, trapped with my thoughts. Unable to sleep, until one day, I couldn\’t take it anymore, and I got off of my pillow, and knelt beside the bed and prayed. It was then that God showed me who He thought I was. He showed me the Man of God I would be after I\’ve endured the trials and tests, and overcame my habitual sins. I saw myself for the first time, free from sin, and I could not believe it, because to me, it seemed impossible that I could ever have a heart like that. When I came back to myself, I looked in the mirror, and thought I didn\’t like what I saw, I saw in mind\’s eye the image that God had showed me of myself, once I\’ve passed these tests. A renewed vigour and humility came into my life. No longer did I punish myself for my mistakes. No matter how many times I fell, I got back up. I was of the opinion, that even if I messed it all up, and ended up going to Hell, I\’m not going down without a fight. Because God had shown me the work He would do in me, I was no longer had an excuse not to try. I was now accountable to strive towards what He had shown me. Even in this, there were those who had judged me, and expected me to stay in my hole. That didn’t even phase me, because I knew what God wanted me to be. I never submitted to their judgements. The scripture that has always confirmed this to me is this:Philipians 1:6 [Amplified]6And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.To me this means that God didn\’t start the work He began in us just to leave us hanging as desperate failures. He is faithful and just to bring it to completion. The question is: Do we trust and believe Him enough that He won\’t abandon us. Take it from one what has been abandoned all their life. He has NEVER abandoned me, and I know He won\’t abandon you. Look at the depression as an excuse. And everytime it comes to you, give it the kick in the pants it deserves, and walk as though you are a real child of God. Yes you have her imperfections and seemingly impossible-to-fix issues, but walk with confidence that God is going to deal with them in His time. There are two other keys: The first is Worship. During a worship service, when those mind-hassles come to you, FIGHT THEM! Fight to focus on God and show Him how much you love Him. Be desperate for His Presence above how you look. As you fight in this arena, as you take steps to get closer to His presence, once you make contact with Him, it will have a ripple affect though your entire life. Having the assurance of having encountered God, and subsequently, having received more of the Spirit of God, will take you one step higher everytime, out of the hole of depression. The fight that you have during worship, will empower you in the other fights in your life. The difference is having fought the fight of worship to His Presence, will grant you access to the power, annointing and fuel required to overcome your other battles. Open your heart, Love and worship Him first.Practically: sleep. If I don\’t get enough sleep, all kinds of emotional garbage comes out of me. If you\’re on your pillow with your thoughts and they won\’t go away. Get off of your bed, get on your knees, and truly and honestly give those thoughts to God. Every fear, every doubt, every uncertainty, every relationship issue, even every sin. Just give it all to Him, and ask Him to hold onto it for you while you sleep. Don\’t get back in your bed until your certain you\’ve given every single one to Him — you\’ll know. When we case our cares on Him we can find peace with God. Lastly, bless you for your honesty. I know you\’re not the only one that struggles with this, because this was a major issue for me too.Hope this helps.Jason

  25. valid points, but i find it extremely difficult to believe in something that i cannot physically touch, feel, hear and see.that, for me, is my main argument against the whole Jesus and God thing.

  26. why did you delete my post if you didnt take offence to it? i made sure it didnt have any swearing in it. You can\’t handle that what i said was right. Using the example i used before, when jesus stopped the people from stoning the prostitute, he did not endorse prostitution, thats obvous, however even though what she was doing was wrong the people had no right to stone her for it. Jesus\’ message (even though i don\’t believe in the words of the bible) was love. Show people how to live through love, not by calling them murderers.and you dont have to call me –chard- thats just silly, its obvious my actual name is Richard.

  27. pattie_cI like how Hebrews 1:1 is put in the Amplified version of the bible.NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, [a]the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]. We cannot see the wind but we can see it\’s effects. We cannot see God but we can see His effects as well. The biggest being changed lives. Faith is not rocket science. It is easy to believe and as a matter of fact you have to have even more faith not to believe.God loves you whether you believe in Him or not.

  28. –chard- Sorry Richard. I get so many comments that I don\’t remember that one. Jesus had a very unique way of dealing with people. Each person He encountered was treated in a way that made others around them think. He called the Pharisees hypocrites not because He didn\’t love them, but to shake them up. And being hypocrites and being denounced publicly did one of two things. It either caused them to repent and turn from their hypocrisy or they justified themselves and it inflamed their hatred against Jesus and the truth. I am not Jesus, but I am called to be like Him and we are told to have the mind of Christ. In calling those that advocate abortion murderers I was just reiterating what the bible says about killing. Did I do it because I hate those that advocate and have had abortions. No! Absolutely not! I love them because God loves them. What it did was, again, one of two things either those who read the article made themselves right with God or they justified themselves. Sometimes the best thing that you can do to save a person is tell them the truth. The fact is that sometimes truth hurts. A doctor is not going to hide from a patient that they have cancer and let them go merrily on their way believing there is nothing wrong. I can\’t lie to people and tell them that killing human beings is right either. There are consequences.Concerning judging, if you read my blog called, “Who Are You to Judge?”, you’ll understand a little more where I am coming from.

  29. wow…Mr. Lochan, the picture you painted looked JUST LIKE ME! I can\’t believe how much alike it is…For the \’people looking at me and finding me ridiculous\’ while worship time, it\’s exactly that, the lask of sleep…wow! I\’m so glad to see that someone else has been through that too and that they are actually true christians! I somewhat feared that if I felt lower than everybody, I musn\’t be that great of a christian and even started to question if I was to be with God for eternity or not…Thank you for being straight with me and it does make sense (so much!). I\’m just so releived to see that I can break free from this thing because I honestly can\’t take it anymore!!! God bless you and the others who replied to my question too, you have no idea how much it meens to me! me.

  30. no one needs to know (gonna give us your name yet?)Psalms 55:22 "Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you"You should take these problems now and give them to God. Pray for help. Also read your bible more and you will see that your feelings of being lower has nothing to do with salvation. It doesn\’t seem like you have a problem with going to heaven, just you need to work on this life. I don\’t that God\’s plan for you includes being miserable.Jeremiah 29:11"For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, \’Plansto prosper you and not to harm you, Plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I wil listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you\’ decares the Lord."

  31. no one needs to know,Hallelujah! I\’m glad it witnessed to you. One more thing — *NEVER* forget what this feels like. To be so low, full of pain and depression. Because one day, you\’ll meet someone that is full of the same thing, and you\’ll need to remember your own pain to have the compassion to help them. The whole reason you\’re going through this, is to help someone else breakthrough the same issue. Never forget where you came from.Again, bless you for your honesty and willingness to recieve. The sincerity of your heart shines *FAR* above *MOST* christians that I know. That\’s all He wants…. genuinely sincere, desperate, obedient, sacrificial hearts for Him.He is AWESOME!Take care,Jason

no offence gerry but my frank opinion is that religion is a crutch for those who need something to latch on to. ive been a catholic my entire life and do believe in the fundamentals of the religion but just cant grasp some(most) concepts. i look at it as teachings->how the church wants you to live your life, but i feel all of this is not needed at all. if you live your life for who you are you do not need this stepping stone. just my opinion.-one love(L)

  34. 93-KaZy-93I agree religion is a crutch, but we are not talking about religion. We are talking about relationship. A relationship with the living God through His son Jesus Christ. What really matters most in this life is where you will spend eternity. The church can\’t help you and good works can\’t help you. Being a good catholic can\’t help you. Only Christ can.As I said you cannot understand the things of God without the Spirit.I don\’t know why, but God wants me to give you this parable. 16And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. 17He thought to himself, \’What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.\’ 18"Then he said, \’This is what I\’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19And I\’ll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." \’ 20"But God said to him, \’You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?\’ 21"This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God." Luke 12:16-21Take some time to get to know Him. You will find that He is not a crutch at all, but a friend that sticks closer than a brother.Take careGerry

  35. Gerry, I finally was able to get your site a link on mine, hope that is ok. I kinda feel a fool for not knowing how until now, but I am still getting the hang of things. But as far as being a fool goes, I am all for being the fool if it is for the Glory of God.Blessings,Bethany.

  36. http://www.watchman.org/oprah.htmWOW,,Gerry I just watched the Oprah Link you have. I don\’t think I can ever watch her again!

  37. Please if you can email me with instructions I would really appreciate this and I can also help getting the word of God an Jesus out by song and praise. Thank you, Faithfully Jesus\’ Jessica Chavez

  38. You have made a stong argument from the heart. i applaud you. However, Buhdists have felt truly while meditating the sense of being at one with the universe. Muslims have felt the presence of Allah. Ancient greeks felt their gods and the glory and order that they held to them in no small manner. There has never been a eligion where people did not feel that what they believed was true, that they were at one with the universe as they saw it. I am a servant of Allah, i must not fight, yet christians have always had a fear of argument. When the first christian representatives from europe arrived in the mongol capital, they were shocked at the wide display of religions. They were astounded that so many schools of thought, including they\’re own, could live in peace with one another. I am not trying to make you change your religion. I am merely suggesting that you not force it on others, that you accept that people do not want to live life like you. You wave aside a chance of an open discussion by saying that we who are lesser than you cannot understand what you have seen. We can. If you have actualy read this, at this stage, you\’ll want some information about me. I am a 15 year old irish canadian and secret muslim. I am a jazz musician, a philosipher, and politcal thinker. I am a person to be reckoned with. One last thing: i believe that there is a supreme diety, and that as His wisdom must be infinite, our world must be perfect. That does not mean that the world is different than it appears, but that the definition of perfect is defferent from what we percieve.

  39. el guya,If you post your email on my site I can connect you with a girl from Canada who was raised muslim but 2 years ago accepted Jesus. What she will say will probably be very relevant to your situation.

  40. El Guya Commento, sorry to cool your jets there bud but you are in no way a philosipher at your age you dont have a faint idea what life means and i should know i was that age not that long ago.a philosipher is somone who has philisophical theroy\’s of life so what are your theroy\’s?peace and love, Jeff

  41. Ok Mr. Lochan, I will keep your advice and keep in mind what God is taking me out of. I\’m really grateful for the time you took to reply to my question and thank you again very much. To \’china on fire\’ I do read my Bible but I\’ll do my best to read it even more and take the time to let it sink in. I have a tendency to read a lot at a time and I can\’t remember most of it…I\’m actually in the worship team at the church I attend but I need to just stop focusing on what others might be thinking (which is a lot harder than people think) and keep my eyes on my King. Since you what to know my name, call me Cath, it\’s the short of my first name. Thank you guys for not judging me, it really means a lot and I\’ll actually copy-paste the comments so I can read them again if bad thoughts ever show up again (which I hope won\’t happen). Thanks again and God bless your hearts!Cath * Mr. Lochan, you are right, God IS awesome!!!

  42. El Guya CommentoWell Mr. "I am a person to be reckoned with" You are entitled to be wrong. I don\’t hold it against you. People are free to make up their minds. God gave them a free will. They can choose what ever religion they want. But as for true believers we have chosen a relationship and not a religion. The truth is that satan is very good at decieving those who are open to his deception. Buddisim and Islam represent 2 of those religions that he has fooled people with. He comes as an angel of light. I want you to read this article as to why Jesus is the only way to the Father.http://www.cbn.com/spirituallife/ChurchAndMinistry/Evangelism/What_Makes_the_Christian_Message_Unique.aspWhen we say that Christ is the only way we are 100% right. When you grow up a little and experience life and all it\’s hardships come back and see me and we\’ll talk some more.

  43. no one needs to know Hi Cath, sometimes I don\’t comment because someone like Jason or china have already answered your questions. I have faced depression in my life a couple of times and was delivered from it about 5 years ago. But occasionally it will try to rear it\’s ugly head again. One of the best pieces of medicine I have found is to put on some good worship music and sing. It focuses my mind and thoughts on Christ and not me or the things that would try to bring me down. Just a tip from one worshipper to another.God bless

  44. Cath,Easy with the "Mr. Lochan". Jason is fine. Jason

  45. I gather that you are saying that every Christian that claims to have special revelation from God for understanding the Bible is right.I suspect that you would say no to that. You would just say that at least you know that you\’re interpretation of the Bible is inspired by God, because you feel that he has spoken it into your heart at least.I suspect that you would claim that a person doesn\’t need any education about the Bible. That the Holy Spirit will impart correct meaning and wisdom to those who truly seek it regarding interpreting the Bible.I suspect you would also say that the many variations between Christian denominations are the result of people not truly seeking the wisdom and understanding from God (Holy Spirit) and that you know that what you think is right because you feel it deep inside. Like the Light of Christ has touched you and revealed to YOU specifically (and those who share your views of course) the specific truth on such things as abortion etc. (Of course supported by your equally divinly inspired interpretation of scripture to support such beliefs.)Funny how Joseph Smith made the exact same claims. Who should I believe? Mormons encourage me to seek the Holy Spirit for guidance and wisdom about the truth of their message, so do you. The are not afraid that the search for truth will lead to what they think is true, so do you. They think that if I don\’t find what they believe to be true is true, then my mind is clouded by the devil and the wisdom of this world, so do you.I suspect that you would claim that it is easy to dicern the difference and flaws in the Mormon belief system, and that of course is to look at the authenticity and validity of their scriptures and their claims.I suspect that you would also say that you couldn\’t possibly know everything about the Bible. (But perhaps the things that you don\’t know, when you need to know, will be timly revealed to you by the Holy Spirit.. correctly of course.)If it is possible that you don\’t know everything about the Bible and/or God, then there is definately a logical possibilty that you could be wrong. You don\’t feel like it of course, which is why you believe what you believe, but the possiblility is that you could be wrong. If there are 2 opposing views about something (although I know there are about 1000 differing religious views, but lets just narrow it down to 2), then the possibilities are that one is wrong and one is right or both are wrong. You = right / They = wrongYou = wrong / They = rightYou = wrong / They = wrongYou see here that there is a 2 out of 3 chance that you are wrong. Same for them, but that\’s 66% chance that out of 2 opposing views, that you are wrong! If you both claim special revelation from the Holy Spirit for the truth, how does one dicern the difference between the claims other than finding the flaws in their claims supported by bad or misinterpreted scriputres?

  46. To try and compare Mormonism to Christianity is like comparing apples and oranges. Jesus asked the question of His disciples: “Who do you say that I am?”13When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?" 14They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets." 15"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" 16Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." 17Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades] will not overcome it. 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." 20Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ. It all comes down to who do people say that Jesus is? Was He a great teacher? A charlatan? Was He a prophet or was He mad? Mormons believe that He was a created being like you and I and that Lucifer is his brother. Muslims believe that He was the greatest of all prophets. Christianity is the only one that believes that He was God come down to man. His name is Emmanuel, God with us. You say that only one out of three is right. I’ll tell you that there is no other option other than Christianity and Christ. There are 456 prophecies in the Old Testament concerning the coming of messiah. In 1969, Professor Peter Stoner of Westmon College had 600 hundred students work on the probabilities of just 8 prophecies being fulfilled by one person. The students carefully weighed all the factors, discussed each prophecy at length, and examined the various circumstances which might indicate that men had conspired together to fulfill a particular prophecy. They made their estimates conservative enough so that there was finally unanimous agreement even among the most sceptical students. But then Professor Stoner took their estimates and made them even more conservative. He also encouraged other skeptics or scientists to make their own estimates to see if his conclusions were more fair. Finally, he submitted his figures for review to a Committee of the American Scientific Affiliation. Upon examination, they verified that his calculations were dependable and accurate in regard to scientific material presented. After examining eight different prophecies, they conservatively estimated that the chance of one man fulfilling all eight prophecies was one in 10 to the 17th power or a figure with 17 zeros! To illustrate this imagine the state of Texas being covered in dollar coins over 2 feet deep which is the amount of coins equalling the probability of the 8 prophecies being fulfilled and then asking a blindfolded man to go in and find the one coin that was different from all the others. The chances of him finding it on the first try are almost impossible. But of course there are many more than eight prophecies. In another calculation Stoner used 48 prophecies and arrived at the extremely conservative estimate that the probability of 48 prophecies being fulfilled in one person is 10 to 157th power. How large is the number one in 10 to the 157th power? It contains 157 zeros! The probability of one person fulfilling all 456 prophecies is a staggering, and yet Jesus fulfilled them all! How’s that for odds.Concerning the Mormons and other religions having feelings. The Mormons call it a “burning in the bosom.” Christianity is not based on feelings. It is based upon a deep seated faith that remains the same no matter how we are feeling. It is a knowing that you know that it is absolute truth. But you will never understand that unless God opens your eyes. There may be many different denominations, but it is man that brought that about, not God. And it is carnal man that brings in division and misinterpretation of the scripture. When the Sprit speaks we know. There is nobody’s voice like His. There is a very good website I think you should visit. It’s called Rational Christianity. It may answer many of your questions. http://www.rationalchristianity.net/index.html

  47. You say,"And it is carnal man that brings in division and misinterpretation of the scripture."Could you be one of these carnal men? Are you in the most accurate denomination? The Spirit told me the correct Biblical interpretation and its stance on abortion. It\’s true, I know it. The Spirit of God has spoken it into my heart. It\’s the one you deleted. I could repost it so we could let the community decide (with the Spirit of God as a guide) if it is right. Because if it\’s not the truth, the Spirit of God wouldn\’t possibly let anything contradict his truth.Personally, I don\’t like debating things and I see that you don\’t either. So I could just present the Spirit filled explanation of abortion in the Bible and let the Spirit then speak the truth or untruth of such things for the people that are searching. If not, I understand. No hard feelings.

  48. Hi Malone,I think Gerry explained faith pretty well:"Christianity is not based on feelings. It is based upon a deep seated faith that remains the same no matter how we are feeling. It is a knowing that you know that it is absolute truth. But you will never understand that unless God opens your eyes"The thing is, I don\’t think you would have experienced the holy spirit because you have not let it in. It is something that rests in believers, after you have you need Jesus and you ask him into your heart. Because Jesus Christ is in heaven now we have been left with the holy spirit in its stead (someone correct me if I\’m wrong) And in fact, the presence of the holy spirit is hardly veiled. Try going into a prayer session in a baptist or pentecostal church.

  49. MrMalone As a matter of fact I don\’t belong to a denomination. I am simply a follower of Christ. I believe the denominations are an abomination to God. Jesus prayed that believers be one as He and the Father were one.The reason I deleted your comment was simply because of the arrogance you showed. All the examples you used were from a web site I had seen in doing my research on abortion. Believe me the devil knows the scripture very well and knows how to twist it to his own means. I recognize my enemy very well. And believe me the Spirit of God does not contradict Himself and has not spoken to you. The Spirit indwells those who are Christ\’s and no others. To say that He does would make Him a liar. The problem with people like you MrMalone is that you try to come at things from an intellectual point of view and that is not how God works. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 1 Corinthians 1:27 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 2:14Some of the greatest men and women of God have been those who were uneducated. Jesus took a bunch of fishermen and used them to change the world. There is only one truth, not many, only one path and only one Saviour. I know it comes across to you as being arrogant but I can\’t speak anything else but the truth. Jesus came speaking the truth and that\’s what the world thought about Him. His Spirit lives in me and in all who have made Him Lord. As long as you try to intellectualize Jesus you\’ll never find out who He truly is until you stand before Him at judgement. You need Him and He longs for you to know Him.

  50. Absolutely nothing left to say after that… 😀

  51. So you would maintain that Psalm 139 when David is talking about that he feels like he was made "special" in his mother\’s womb.. in the first person.. in a poetic tense.. that we\’re supposed to interpret that it is litteral and that what it says comes from God and applies to everybody?

  52. MrMaloneYou are forgetting that the bible was inspired by God through the Holy Spirit and God being God can use His word in any way that He seems fit. David did write Psalm 139 but under the guidance of the Spirit.Again you are coming from an intellectual viewpoint and that is why you can\’t understand. Jesus often referred to or quoted from the Old Testament Scriptures to support His teachings. He told the Jewish leaders, "You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: " \’These people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." Matthew 15:7-8 This scripture was taken from Isaiah 29:13. Or John 10:34 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, \’I have said you are gods\’? which is taken from Psalm 82:6, a Psalm written by Asaph "I said, \’You are "gods"; you are all sons of the Most High.\’ These are just a few of many examples. Paul and others also took verses out of the Old Testament books. One could say from an intellectual view that they took the scripture out of context, which is not the case at all. Aside from Jesus who is God all the other authors were guided by the Holy Spirit. God loves you, and He sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay the penalty for your sins. Jesus did exist. He is alive today and if you did hard enough you\’ll find the truth and that truth will set you free.

Whoah if I have to spend an eternity with a bunch of bashers you can forget it.

  54. Hi AllpraiseOk, I\’ll take that as a yes.You said "[the] bible was inspired by God through the Holy Spirit and God being God can use His word in any way that He seems fit. David did write Psalm 139 but under the guidance of the Spirit."You also say, "Aside from Jesus who is God all the other authors were guided by the Holy Spirit."David writes:Psalm 44: 9 But now you have rejected and humbled us; you no longer go out with our armies. 10 You made us retreat before the enemy, and our adversaries have plundered us. 11 You gave us up to be devoured like sheep and have scattered us among the nations. 12 You sold your people for a pittance, gaining nothing from their sale. 13 You have made us a reproach to our neighbors, the scorn and derision of those around us. 14 You have made us a byword among the nations; the peoples shake their heads at us. 15 My disgrace is before me all day long, and my face is covered with shame 16 at the taunts of those who reproach and revile me, because of the enemy, who is bent on revenge. 17 All this happened to us, though we had not forgotten you or been false to your covenant. 18 Our hearts had not turned back; our feet had not strayed from your path. 19 But you crushed us and made us a haunt for jackals and covered us over with deep darkness. 20 If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god, 21 would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart? 22 Yet for your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. 23 Awake, O Lord! Why do you sleep? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever. 24 Why do you hide your face and forget our misery and oppression? 25 We are brought down to the dust; our bodies cling to the ground. Can you help me understand what God is saying here? Did God sell his people (to the devil or whoever was buying) for a pittance and gain nothing from the sale?? I sincerely want to understand why most Christians would claim the opposite about God of what is said here in the Bible, that was guided by the Holy Spirit. From what you just said about the Holy Spirit guiding the author, you would say then that God is telling us that He is like this. Can you help me understand? I\’m being sincere. Help me understand what THIS passage is telling us about God. Thanks in advance.P.S. You can show me a link to someone that has already done so, I\’d be fine with that too.

  55. Psalm 44 was written during the time of Judah’s decline. They had been warned many times about the consequences of following after other gods. Why has God put things like psalm 44, Jeremiah, Lamentations and other portions of scripture in the bible. First so we can see what sin does to a people. God is always there, but when we sin, we lose sight of Him and it feels as if He has abandoned us. Sin separates and brings consequences and in Judah’s case it brought untold suffering upon the nation because of their repeated rebellion. They had crossed a line and God told them they would be removed from the land. Also Psalms like this allow us to relate to those who went before us. It provides for us a warning. There are many times when believers feel separated from God but the fact is our relationship with Him is not based on feelings. Feelings come and go, but faith never wavers. When you first come to Christ, your relationship is based upon feelings, you feel awesome but as time goes by those feelings wane. Does that mean that God is no longer there? Not at all. He has promised never to leave nor forsake His children. Those that have a true relationship with Christ and are rewarded for it are those who stand in faith no matter how they are feeling, No matter what their circumstances are. No matter what kind of storms life throws at them. Their faith stands firm and strong. How do I know? I have been there and come through. Not because I am special, but because I serve a wonderful and loving Father who not once has ever let me down.

  56. AllpraiseSo how can you say that this passage is based on David\’s feelings and therefore not accurate description of God\’s relationship with us and that Psalm 139 is not based on feelings and it is God speaking the words through David. Seeing as they are both songs I\’\’m curious how many Biblical scholars would agree with that perspective. It seems convienient that all the bad things are attributed to David and all the good thing are attributed to God. It\’s easy for someone to say they are created special by God when they are for all intents and purposes physically, mentally perfect. As a "person" sure we\’re all special so to speak, but the physical context which Psalm 139 is talking about is easy to apply to David. The passage uses the words frame, form, woven, knit.. all in context of the physical form.I believe that, sure, David was made special. His whole song is in the first person. He says you I am fearfully and wonderfully made, I was made, I was woven.. It doesn\’t say we. If God wanted that message out, all he would have to do is inspire David to recognize that and speak more broadly about mankind. But he didn\’t, David was speaking from his own perspective, his own feeling. In fact the Bible suggests that others were also made special by God.. Jesus, perhaps Moses, perhaps Noah.. Jerimiah etc. Those are examples of how God CAN and DOES create certain people special, but it it seems much more the exception than the rule.Check the infant mortality rate in any modern hospital. The infant mortality rate 2000 years ago is astonishing but not really recorded, a modern hospital is plenty to make my point. That God would make children in their mother\’s womb intentionally that they would die before they are born isn\’t consistent with the God described in the Bible. God killed children in the Bible, but not before they were born. This realm of the womb.. if God is in control.. "creating" this being. Is he not powerful enough to create it properly? Is he not interested enough? You might say sin has entered the world and marred his creation. You mean continually??.. because there is sin in the world, God can\’t work properly? God is creating away and all of a sudden, uh oh.. there comes that sin.. not much I can do now, gotta stop. What about free choice? For a fetal alcohol syndrom baby, what part did God create, and what part did Mom create? The effects on the baby are biological. I don\’t think God puts fetal alcohol syndrom into a baby on purpose. Sure, it\’s possible that he could, but I think we could both agree that\’s not reasonable to say so.The options are that he screws up, he\’s doing it on purpose, or he\’s not doing anything at all. The first one isn\’t really an option. If he\’s doing it on purpose and if that can be supported by the Bible, then God is the first abortionist. If he\’s not doing anything at all, I think that best explains the Biblical possition. God CAN and HAS created people speacial in their mother\’s womb, but those would be the exception and not the rule.

  57. "If he\’s doing it on purpose and if that can be supported by the Bible, then God is the first abortionist."Assuming you equate God with a man. Sorry He\’s not. While I cannot kill anyone, God is most certainly at liberty to do whatever He wants with His creation — it\’s His. Even trying to decipher which part of fetal alchohol syndrome is God and which part is the mother? You\’re trying to evaluate God according to your own humanity. We are but the image of our Creator. You and I are but a mere man. I don\’t think you have a measuring stick big enough, or even in the right dimension, to critique God. Right now you\’re trapped in your logic. Have you ever logically believed something to be true, only to discover later that your logic was naive, but the reality of the outcome spoke the truth to you contrary to your logic? Did you persist in your logic, or did you accept the reality? This was only learned through experience, and empirically observing a reaction that defied your hypothesis. Have you tried asking God yourself? No, not having a psychological synapsis — really asking God? Have you taken the personal quest to verify the existence of God or not?Job 9:32For [God] is not a [mere] man, as I am, that I should answer Him, that we should come together in court. The entire book of Ecclesiastes is for the logical, naturally minded man. Take a look at his quest of logical accomplishment, experience and fulfillment, and look at where he logically concluded. Until you meet Him, you\’re just busting your brains against the Bible. It\’s meaningless.Jason

  58. MrMalone Again you\’re looking at scripture through a logical point of view. You just don\’t get it. You will never figure out God unless He opens your eyes to the truth. These things are discerned spiritually. Your argument is meaningless and this is what I mean about endless discussions that lead nowhere. You and I are at opposite ends and there is no way to meet in the middle. You will always be looking at the Bible from a point of view of flesh and you will always miss the mark. I have seen the glory of God. I have seen His mercy, love and grace. I have heard His voice. and He has healed my body mind and spirit in countless ways. You on the other hand have turned from God. You listened to a lie one day and followed it. I sense the bitterness and anger that drives you. There is also a great arrogance and pride that has entered into you and God will never reveal Himself to the arrogant. You have rejected the mercy and grace that Christ has shown you on the cross and placed yourself as His judge.Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. James 4-10But He gives us more and more grace ([a]power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency and all others fully). That is why He says, God sets Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace [continually] to the lowly (those who are humble enough to receive it). James 4:6 (AMP)Likewise, you who are younger and of lesser rank, be subject to the elders (the ministers and spiritual guides of the church)–[giving them due respect and yielding to their counsel]. Clothe (apron) yourselves, all of you, with humility [as the garb of a servant, [a]so that its covering cannot possibly be stripped from you, with freedom from pride and arrogance] toward one another. For God sets Himself against the proud (the insolent, the overbearing, the disdainful, the presumptuous, the boastful)–[and He opposes, frustrates, and defeats them], but gives grace (favor, blessing) to the humble. 1 Peter 5:5 (AMP)I pray that you haven\’t strayed too far that it is not too late for you to turn back. I pray that deep down in your heart there is still a spark that acknowleges Jesus as Lord.Every single person is special in the sight of God and every single life, no matter how short, influences another. It is not those that stand out among men that will recieve the greatest rewards but those who do with their lives what God asked them to do. Those who\’s works are never seen by men and work in ways that only God sees.Gerry
