Watching Our Tongues II

See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh. James 3:5-12

What comes out of your mouth? Is it words of encouragement for your brethren or is it grumbling? When you are in church do you talk well to others and then when you are away do you whisper and backbite? Do you find fault with those that God has put in leadership? Do you have control over your tongue or does the Holy Spirit? Charles Spurgeon once said, Fault finding is dreadfully catching; one dog can send a whole kennel howling." Paul said in Ephesians 4:29; Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

The horror of gossip turns language or words, our best gift and most powerful tool, into a cruel weapon. Idle talk mangles truth and exchanges wisdom for foolishness Gossip is the opposite of love (1 Cor. 13:6; Gal. 5:14,15). Instead of helpfulness it brings hurt. Instead of peace it brings anger and strife (Prov. 16:28; 2 Cor. 12:20). Where there should be trust it brings betrayal (Prov. 20:19).

Let’s face it, we love to talk and to many of us gossip is a form of entertainment. It gives our flesh a boost and is like a drug. There is a saying that my mom always says; If you don’t have anything good to say about a person, don’t say anything at all.

Let’s look at a hypothetical situation; One Monday there was a pastor who had to pick up his younger sister at the airport. The sister who was not a Christian was having trouble in her marriage. On their way home the wife of an important member of the congregation who had never seen this sister before saw them together in the pastor’s car and waved at him, but because the pastor was involved in deep conversation with his sister he didn’t see the woman. As soon as the woman got home she called her closest friend and told her that she had seen the pastor with an attractive woman and that he had ignored her. When her husband got home she told him the same thing. Soon almost the whole church believed that the pastor was having a secret affair. A board meeting was called and the pastor was called in to be confronted about this secret relationship of his. Everyone was afraid to ask the pastor himself about it, but they were not afraid to discuss it behind his back. Imagine the shame the leadership felt after they found out it was the pastor’s sister. A trust was broken that week and a church almost destroyed. Like James said; "See how great a forest a little fire kindles!" One idle word can bring down an entire church.

Jesus said "Men will have to give account on the day of judgement for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned" (Matt. 12:36,37).

Each of us has been guilty of this sin at one time or another. It is very easy to slip into. We need to ask God’s Holy Spirit to keep our mouths and set a guard over our tongues. Let’s become firefighters instead of fire starters.

  8. JamesI thought that would be your answer. To bad you couldn\’t have done it without swearing. God does exist. Just like you can\’t see the wind but you can see it\’s effects, you can\’t see God but you can see His effects everywhere, the biggest being changed lives.

  11. JamesYou\’re just making a bigger fool out of yourself. You never gave an answer because you don\’t have one. Nobody\’s brainwashed James except those who believe everything the media tells them. All true believers have come of their own free will. Nobody is forced to believe. The same as you have a choice to believe or not believe, but it doesn\’t change a thing. You can\’t escape the reality that is God and that He loves you.

  12. I\’m kind of new to all this, that\’s why I posted that link in my previous post. An icebreaker of sorts. However, I do have a question also for you people. If Jesus instructs us to "call NO man a fool", why do you enjoy using the term to easily and frequently? I take the Bible seriously so I wonder why you do this.I\’m not out to cause trouble but those were Jesus\’ exact words and you shouldn\’t change them to meet your comfortable meaning. I\’m just curious here because you seem to say one thing but practice something else. Or has Jesus given you special permission to go against His word while preaching it?I\’ll be by in a while looking for an answer.

  13. Will avoid the debatable topic on this post just because. Anyways I encourage you to think about this passage in an even broader topic. It is not good enough just to talk nicely about those inside the church, although this is very important, but even greater importance should be our words shared for those outside the church. I think that the language and discussion of others is a witness to the world. Doing good deeds while slandering people with the tongue causes great strife and ruins any chance to witness. Our tongue should be a fountain of blessing, a firm defense, and exhorter for even those we find hard to get along with. Not because we have to but because we want them to see the love of Christ in our lives. Good topic and discussion Gerry.

  14. ok, I have a few things here to say about the other bloggers.1 James – man is your mouth and thoughts just full of hate. You ask questions but when one is asked of you, you don\’t respond, or at least not with anything that is near to an answer. If you want scientific proof, on some level there are plenty of books out there that show how there has to be something much more then a big bang to have started the world and universe. Also, take a look at a baby, an orchid and a duck billed platapus, I can\’t even begin to imagine one single solitary molicule being able to create that along with all the stars and other planetary system out there. God asks us to Believe in Him, to Trust Him, to Follow Him and to do all this by faith. It is the Faithful that will enter Heaven, it is the Faithful that will receive His Kingdom as their Home. Those who need proof, well, lets just say eternity in fire is a long time to burn just because you needed the proof. This will most likely be just words to you, but here it is Ephesians 2:8 – 10 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through FAITH – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God\’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." It is by Faith that we are accepted and that God accepts us, not by proof.2. Darla – even Jesus rebuked people, in particular His disciples. Read Matthew 15:1-20. Jesus is telling them a parable, now not everyone gets them, but it is more then once that He has told this parable to them, maybe using different things in it, but the same message, and yet they still ask for clarification on it, in vs. 16 Jesus says "Are you still so dull?" and to contunue on, in the passage, it talks to exactly what Gerry is saying about our mouths and our tongues and how it is them that make us or break us.

JSome blame Christianity for religious wars, the Crusades, burning witches, the Inquisition, slavery, even the Holocaust.The issue of atrocities is simply an extension of the question of hypocrites. So-called believers who didn\’t practice true Christianity have perpetrated evil. In reality, these people were Christian in name only.Focusing on their atrocities is a smoke screen to avoid the real issue. Christianity has far more positive achievements than negative influences. It\’s been instrumental in the formation of countless hospitals, schools, colleges, orphanages, relief agencies, and charity agencies. No other religion in history can compare.Concerning people being saved, millions will disagree with you. When Christ comes in a change does happen and that person will never be the same. But to try to explain that to someone who has never experianced it is not easy. You have to experiance it yourself.I was there for the birth of both my children, it is a deeply moving and spiritual experiance. It is indeed a miracle.

I am not living my life to make someone I have never even met happier.And as for heaven, you act like you know there is one… so prove that there is?Making me disprove it without you actually proving it is illogical and making yourself out to be silly. I am quite content to believe my beliefs, I believe what I want… not what someone is telling me to. If your beliefs are the truth, then how do so many other religions exist? Are they all wrong and simply your religion alone is right? That is a selfish way to look at this.I find the whole idea of God to be rather subjective, people claiming birth to be a miracle and other such wonderful events. I ask you this; Why does whenever something good happen, it is because of God; yet whenever something bad happens it is a person\’s fault? You are trying to belittle me by making me out to be afraid… something that isn\’t true.Anyone can save a life, just as easily someone can destroy one. No one comes to the Father except through me."Logically, it\’s not possible for all the major world religions to be valid ways to God. As seen in the verses above, Christianity states that the God of the Bible is the only true God and salvation is only possible by accepting Christ as Savior and Lord. Judaism states that the God of the Torah/Old Testament is the only true God, but that Jesus is not the Messiah, putting it directly at odds with Christianity. Jesus either is the Messiah, or he is not. If he is, Judiasm is not a valid way to God; if he is not, Christianity is not a valid way to God. The mutual exclusion only grows when other religions are added: Islam says that Allah is the only true God, and that anyone who says Christ is the Son of God will be condemned (Qur\’an, 5:72, 9:30). Furthermore, if religions other than Christianity are valid ways to God, then one of Christianity\’s basic principles is false; in that case, can it still be said to be a valid, trustworthy religion? (See also 1 Cor 15:14-19.) No matter what belief system you adopt, you will be saying that your system is right and that the billions of people who don\’t accept it are wrong. How can Christians be sure their religion is the right one? Being born into a Christian family or growing up in a Christian community doesn\’t make one a Christian; culture and ethnicity don\’t determine one\’s relationship with God. Instead, people become Christians because they are convinced of the truth of Christianity and/or have had experiences with God – in short, they have good reasons for believing Christianity to be true. Also, Christians are not saying that their personal ideas are true, but that the Christian God exists, and his words are true. Furthermore, Christianity is unique among religions because it addresses the fact that we can never be good enough to be in the presence of a perfect, holy God. In order to be perfectly good, we would have to be doing good all the time. If we do something wrong, we can\’t undo it, and we can no longer be considered perfect. Nor can we do more good to make up for our wrongs, for perfection requires doing the most good possible at all times – we can\’t be more than perfect to make up for when we\’re less than perfect. Other religions teach that we can somehow do enough good to earn heaven or nirvana, but they don\’t address the fact that we continually make mistakes. Christianity teaches that our sins were paid for by Jesus\’ death on the cross, and that by accepting his payment and believing in him we can be forgiven; we don\’t have to earn our way into heaven, which is a good thing, because we can\’t do it. Christ is the only way to God, because without the forgiveness that comes through his death and resurrection, there\’s no way for us to be able to stand before a holy God. Saying that Christianity is right does not mean that Christians themselves are right about everything, or that they are innately superior to non-Christians. What Christianity teaches is that both Christians and non-Christians "have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Rom 3:23) and need salvation, which comes only by the grace of God, not the individual\’s actions or merits (Eph 2:8-9, 1 Cor 1:26-31). God does allow bad things to happen for the greater good. He sees much more than we could ever see. So go ahead and live your life, But it\’s always going to be in the back of your mind, what if he is right? I am secure in what I believe and I know this that the moment you call out to HIm with a sibcere heart, He will be there for you. He loves you whether you believe in Him or not.

You are free to believe what you will, I don\’t want to try and answer all of your points because in some cases its not necessary, because as you may not have realized you agreed with me but thats besides the point.I believe what I do because of my love for the others around me, I am content with my life and I do not need to seek more then what I already possess. I am not against religion as religion in its simplest, purest form is nothing but the devotion to a belief. You may be happy with your decision in beliefs, I know that I am happy with mine. You should really try to see things from a different way without immediately disregarding my points due to a lack of disproving something because it doesn\’t suit you.-Jonathon

  26. I know there is a doubt in the back of your mind, the very back may it be, that Christ, a God, or anything of that sort cease to exist. If there is no doubt in your mind, then you are the most ill-minded person I have ever talked to. Humans know nothing as it stands, there are infinite other possibilities of afterlife than the one you suggest. You just don\’t understand the numbers behind it. The probability of Christianity being the ONLY correct religion, is 1 / ∞. Just 500 years ago, humans thought the world to be flat. 2000 years ago, religion was barely even heard of. So how can you be 100% sure that a God exists? You can\’t. In 1000 years, the human race may reflect back on our discussions today for humour, for a laugh. Cause we don\’t know what we are talking about. Christianity is flawed. If there is a creator, then what created the creator? The only possible solution (based on human knowledge) is a path of circular logic. The chicken and the egg. More believable than Christianity, is my idea that everything is its own god, everything created itself. That is the only logical idea that can help us to understand what happens in the "Afterlife". Another thing. You cannot use proofs from a book (The Holy Bible) that may not even be accurate. Maybe events recorded in The Holy Bible could have happened, but who is to say that the facts weren\’t tainted and manipulated. You aren\’t a God (by your definition), so there is no way you can be 100% sure of Christianity. So please, if you want to convince me of an idea of yours in the future, educate yourself first.

I want you to read my blog in Who is Jesus? – Is the Bible accurate? What we have today is 99.5 % pure. There are more manuscripts existing for the bible than all the other ancient manuscripts put together.If everything needs a creator, then who or what created God? This question is logically problematic. If everything needs a creator, than no matter what exists, it must have been created. Furthermore, to be created means that someone or something had to create it. But then, who created the creator and so on? Logically, this would mean there would be an infinite regression of creators and we would never be able to find the first, uncaused cause since, by definition (the questions says that "everything needs a creator") there wouldn\’t be any uncaused cause. This would mean that the sequence of creations is eternal. But, if it exists that there is an eternal regression of creators, then who created the infinite regression of creators? Remember, the question presupposes that all things need a creator — even the eternal sequence of creators — which becomes logically absurd. Furthermore, if there is an eternal regression of creators that are eternal, then the question is not answered. In fact, it cannot be answered since it weakness is that "all things need a creator." Of course, this only begs the question in that how did the process begin? Therefore, the question only raises the same problem it asks and it is a question that, by its own design, cannot be answered. Therefore, it is invalid.The question is better phrased as a statement: "Everything that has come into existence, was brought into existence by something else." This is a more logical statement and is not wrought with the difficulties of the initial question. In the revised statement "Everything that has come into existence," implies that the thing that "has come into existence" did not already exist. If it did not already exist but then came into existence, then something had to bring it into existence because something that does not exist cannot bring itself into existence (a logical absolute). This pushes the regression of creators back to what we would call the theoretical "uncaused cause" since there cannot be an infinite regression of creators as discussed above and since in infinite number of creators would mean there was an infinite number of creations and created things including things that cannot be destroyed since they would constitute things that exist. If that is so, then the universe would have had an infinite number of created things in it and it would be full. But it is not full. Therefore, there has not been an infinite regression of creations.By definition, the Christian God never came into existence; that is, He is the uncaused cause (Psalm 90:2). He was always in existence and He is the one who created space, time, and matter. This means that the Christian God is the uncaused cause and is the ultimate creator. This eliminates the infinite regression problem.But some may ask, "But who created God?" But the answer is that by definition He is not created; He is eternal. He is the One who brought time, space, and matter into existence. Since the concept of causality deals with space, time, and matter, and since God is one who brought space, time, and matter into existence, the concept of causality does not apply to God since it is something related to the reality of space, time, and matter. Since God is before space, time, and matter, the issue of causality does not apply to Him.It is your choice to believe or not, God will not force it upon you. Many human beings live in a state of denial because they don\’t want to believe that they are accountable to someone. But the fact is, we are all accountable. We all know in the back of our minds that something greater exists. But humans can not see the truth unless God opens their eyes. God loves you and that is a fact.

  28. i wish, for just 5 minutes i could think how you think, because none of it makes sense to me.i\’m not going to go into my whole \’belief system\’, but the bottom line for myself, is that i cannot place all of my faith, and devote my entire life into something that i have never seen, or even know exists.you\’ve met Him? you\’ve talked with Him? tell him to come introduce Himself to me, and maybe i\’ll reconsider my beliefs.

  31. Ok, here\’s something for you. This is taken from Romans 1:18-23, (here is some proof). "God\’s anger is shown from heaven against all the evil and wrong things that people do. By their own evil lives they hide the truth. God shoes his anger because everything that may be known about God has been made clear. Yes, God has clearly shon them everything that may be known about him. There are thing about God taht people cannot see – his eternal power and all the things that make him God. But since the beginning of the workd those things have been easy to understand. Thay are made clear by what God has made. So people have no excuse for the bad things they do. They knew God. But they did not give glory to God, and they did not tank him. Their thinking became useless. Their foolish minds were filled with darkness. They said they were wise, but they became fools. They gave up the glory of God who lives forever. They traded that glory for the worship of idols made to look like earthly people. They traded God\’s glory for things that look like birds, animals and snakes."(International Childrens Bible, New Century Version)Wow, just in reading that myself, I am amazed at how to the point someone from just under 2000 years ago could be writing as if it was today! I wanted to go further in what he was saying, but it would take up a lot of space, I encourage you to go and read it for yourself to see how that finishes. But ultimately, there is a God because through everything He has created He has shown himself to us, and if you don\’t think that is proof enough, then you are sealing your eternity in hell and not with God in heaven. But that is not where God wants you to be, He loves you and wants you, who is one of His creations, to be with Him in heaven for all eternity. Seriously, I can\’t imagine why anyone would want to spend all eternity with someone like me, but God does, and He has saved us through His only Son. Okay, let me just straighten one thing first… I\’m sure the proof that you are supplying you may find valid but other people such as myself find using quotes from the bible as your proof to the existence of god very flawed. Think about it, you are using his words, or his accounts to prove his existence… that is just like me proving my greatness by something I said, seems foolish; don\’t you think?And with regards to the communication with God himself… I know many who have asked that question and never been answered. You will probably make up an excuse such as "They must not have been pure of heart and mind" but the truth is, you don\’t know for sure and if you think you do then you are painfully close-minded.Also, saying you are 99.5% sure that it is true because of the manuscripts etc. that are in existence… let me just say it is a fact that plenty of things like that have been manipulated, changed, altered so how can we really be sure of whats accurate anymore? I am trying to open your mind rather than have you focus on something so intently you disregard all and any other beliefs.I also find it rather hypocritical to live your life following certain passages of the bible, but then disregard other passages that have what are nowadays horrible and terrible things. For example, Deuteronomy 21:21 " And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear. " This is encouraging punishment through stoning, such a practice would today be considered barbaric and savage. Many claim certain passages such as this to be \’outdated\’ when the truth is that you are just ignoring it because that is what suits you.We can sit here and show positive and negative quotes from the bible back and forth all day, when the fact of the matter is you are refusing to open your mind to the possibilities… you would rather close it, and try and push out the truth. "Seriously, I can\’t imagine why anyone would want to spend all eternity with someone like me, but God does,"I\’m not trying to personally attack you at all here but this is another example of people using religion to seem special. Supposedly god wants to spend eternity with all of his followers in heaven which is supposedly even greater and more beautiful then anything we could ever imagine. Let me ask you this : Why we he create us so that we just wait our entire lives until the good stuff starts? That makes no sense. Jesus quoted scripture to the devil when He was tempted by him in the wilderness. So you will find the bible quoted freely here. If it was good enough for Jesus, then it is good enough for me. We use it because we are insecure but because we are. It is life! People are offended by the word of God. Why? Because it\’s truth. The bible itself is proof for God\’s existance. Jesus said; I am the Way, the Truth and the LIfe, no one comes to the Father but by Me. Skeptics often object that belief in the Christian God, or any god at all, is a matter of having blind faith without any rational reason for one\’s beliefs. But faith doesn\’t have to be blind. God created us with thinking minds and he wants us to use them, and he gives us reason to believe in him. How can people start to believe in God?How can God hold atheists and the unreached accountable for rejecting him? We\’re all given clues that prompt us to seek God. We all wonder how the universe got here and why we ourselves are here. We all wonder if there\’s a larger meaning or purpose to life. Nearly everyone lives in a society where there is a concept of God and where people talk about God and spirituality. These questions prompt us to think about God and ask questions like "Does God exist?" and "How can I communicate with God?" In addition, many people have access to the Bible, which claims to record the words and actions of God, and have heard of Christianity or even interacted with Christians. People can choose to act on these clues by praying and continuing to ask questions and look for answers. Those who have exposure to Christianity can investigate it by talking with Christians, attending church, reading the Bible, etc. We continually make choices about whether we will seek God and draw closer to him or not: we choose to do right or wrong, to think and talk about God or not, to pray or not, etc. These are the choices God will hold us accountable for. However, he will judge people according to the number of clues that were available to them, so those who have heard the Gospel will be held to a higher standard than those who have never heard of Christ (Luke 12:47-48).How can one come to rationally believe in God? Suppose a person acts on the clues described above and starts to investigate Christianity. They can learn more about it in a number of ways. If they attend church and/or interact with Christians, they can determine if Christians\’ faith is genuine and life-changing. If those Christians are loving, joyful, etc., particularly if they were known to not be that way before they became Christians, that\’s reason for the person to consider that Christianity\’s claims could well be true and continue investigating. If the person reads the Bible, they can compare what the Bible says about life, human nature, etc. with their own experiences and see if those parts are true; they can also research its historical accuracy. If the parts they can immediately verify are true, there is reason for believing that the rest of it could be true as well. Most importantly, if the person asks God to reveal himself to them and enable them to know who he is, God can interact with them in an individual way that gives the person further reason to believe. God, as an omniscient teacher, knows what will be convincing evidence for each person, and knows what lessons they need to learn (and the best way for them to learn) in order to come to believe in him. This experience with God gives the person reason to believe God exists and is willing and able to teach them and help them; it also confirms some of what the Bible says about God and his character. The investigator who has done all of the above has plenty of reasons for believing in God: they\’ve seen the effects of his interaction with others, their experience (and possibly research) has so far confirmed what the Bible says, and they\’ve personally interacted with him. This evidence, not to mention other reasons for believing that one may discover, is enough for any Christian to believe there\’s a rational basis for their faith.You can\’t see the truth because the god of this world has blinded you to the truth. The devil knows that if your eyes were opened you would be set free. He hates all of God\’s creation and as he is brought down to judgement, he wants to bring as many as he can to destruction as well. You are headed that way Johnathan. I pray that God does open your eyes because after visting this space and hearing the truths of God you are now even more accountable. God loves you and He died on on cross so that you could be set free. He will keep on reaching out to you as long as you have life, but once death comes and if you haven\’t made a decision then it will be too late. Death could come at any moment. Life is fragile. You need Him more than you know.

Christianity, for some (I am not directing this at you), is the ability to hold over another person\’s head that believers are better people because they believe in God. That is horrible. That is basically like saying, "I hope you die", but even worse, because SUPPOSEDLY it lasts for eternity. You cannot even comprehend how many other possibilities are there of an afterlife, infinite. NO ONE can DEFINE anything. Humans know NOTHING. How can you EVEN THINK you know as much as you do! I have a friend who is purely Christian, and one day, he asked me, "Have you accepted Jesus as your saviour?" I replied no, and he said, "Well then you aren\’t getting into heaven then." Tell me that that is not abusing religion. Just try.Another example. I went to Kingdom Bound in 6 Flags Darien Lake, with my friend\’s family. It is a chance to worship and treasure all our relationships, and a chance to socialize with other Christians. Though, when we got to the entrance, the gatekeepers first question, was "Are you guys Christian?" My friends parents replied, "Yes we are; his friend isn\’t religious but that doesn\’t matter." What followed this was absurd. The guy looked at me, I could see in his eyes that he was angry, and he said "That\’s too bad." TELL ME THAT IS NOT ABUSING RELIGION.Another example. Later that weekend, this old man comes to our campsite and asks if we are Christian and here for the celebration thing. My friend replied that he was, but I am not. The old man simple says, "Oh why not? Don\’t want to go to heaven? Haha just kidding. But seriously, you should go to church, don\’t want God looking down on you." That is abusing religion! I think that this extent of religion is one of the most harsh verbal threats; every religion that is forced to that extent should not be allowed. It should be policed against. Religion has been proven to be the LEADING KILLER of any other death cause. How would being Christian get you into heaven. How is that, ANY DIFFERENT, than say, being an excellent rocket scientist that is not Christian. The rocket-scientist may be a WAY kinder and nicer person, but as long as you believe in God, your entire eternity is set. I can\’t believe any of you, and I can\’t believe what my friend said to me. That is just pure ignorance. All of you underestimate my intelligence, you underestimate my kindness, you underestimate every trait of mine. None of you understand who I am, cause you don\’t see the non-Christian argument behind this, because all of you are "100% sure of yourselves". Well you know what? Just because of this site, I am changing my entire goal in life. I am dedicating my life, to eliminating mass religions. And you cannot stop me.

  46. I find it very hypocritical for a christian person to say that idea about respecting others religions and "letting bigons be bigons". Christianity is always known as trying to convert people, forcing people to change their religion to christianity. I don\’t have a problem with individual beliefs if you leave them at that but when people are convinced and persuaded especially when it comes to immorale things through religion that is where i draw the line. For example; A large reason that so many African people have AIDS is because sexual protection is considered a sin… therfore they can\’t protect themselves from this horrible disease. The truth is I don\’t go around visiting others peoples pages and posting comments about how they need Jesus. They come here. I did not ask you 2 guys to come here either. You came of your own free will. No one forced you. No one is forcing you to make any decision either. But you guys seem to have this great need to defend yourselves. Again I ask if what you believe is truth than why such anger and why the need to justify? I will say it again, God loves you. We share the gospel because of our love for people. We don\’t want that anybody ever goes to hell. It\’s not a place that was created for man, but for the devil and his angels. Believers are not better than everybody else. The bible says that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. The only difference between us and you is that we have recognized our need of God and His forgiveness. We live in His grace and mercy.

People were taking religion too far. I know I cannot change your 100% dedication to God, even though it truly annoys me because no one can be 100% sure of anything. The wisest comment anyone has ever made is the simplest statement — "anything is possible". I don\’t mind Christianity, as long as it isn\’t advertised, and held against someone (as I clearly have been a victim). One should not choose to be religious solely as a result of their fear of what will happen to them in their afterlife, if they do not consult religion. I have had hundreds of people try to convert me before, which I find to be truly appalling. By doing so, they are insulting my beliefs. And I still don\’t understand why people try to do this. I know you will respond something like, "They care about you, that\’s why." But the fact of the matter is, even though they care about me, that is not the reason why they are trying to convert me, despite anything you say. I am extremely contented with having the choice of believing nothing and being athiest. I will visit this site periodically from time to time, and comment if I see overly advertised religion, because that is just wrong. So keep it clean.

I am more concerned about what He thinks than an athiest\’s opinion.As far as trying to convert you, it\’s not my job. Mine is just to present the truth. It\’s God who converts the soul. He is the one who brings the conviction, but He will never force you to make that choice in favour of Him. It still takes a choice and free will is a gift.

There is a way to meet Him, but until you explore it, you\’ve contented yourself to live with heresay. If you truly are logical, intelligent and open-minded people, you would be open to the thought that there is a realm that exists that is greater than your existing powers of perception. Is this to say that you are less of a person than the christian? No. That would be like the one who knows how to swim to frown on the one who does not know. It\’s just a question of if you are willing to learn to swim. We are all sinners. There is a greater spiritual ability within us that is intrinsic to us as human beings, but as human beings, we have taught ourselves to ignore it. It is through this spiritual mechanism, also known as faith, that we have established a connection with a great spiritual being: God. Does this mean we just released our imaginations to this whimsical thing called God and swear to it in our own arrogance? No. We have taken that step of faith, and come in contact with a real, living, holy God. If it were not for this proof of contact, then yes, I would agree with you. Religion is vanity without knowing Him. But because I have met Him, I can only say that since you haven\’t, you\’re making grave assumptions about Him. The real question is, if He did make Himself evident to you: what would you do with it? I\’m sure you and Him both know the answer to that.Jason

  57. Joseph CWe will pray for you Joseph. I have acouple of friends that battle with herion and it\’s not an easy battle. But having Christ in it for you helps an awful lot. If you call out to Him, He does forgive you. I suggest you get yourself into a Christian program that will help you get free.Father, we come in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ and pray for Joseph right now. God we have seen you set so many free from the things that this drug does to people. I am asking that you would set Him free and lead him to those who know how to help him. Lord most of all show him You love Him no matter what he\’s done. Your forgiveness is there. Surround him right now with Your presence and love. Amen.Let us know how it goes Joseph.

  58. Jimmy WanabeIf you want to look a an example of forgiveness, it is what Christ did on the cross. He said; Father forgive them for they don\’t know what they are doing. Nobody has ever suffered the way Jesus did and yet He forgave. Forgiveness comes out of love and a pure heart I know it\’s not easy to forgive some people, I have been there and struggled with it myself. I wasn\’t truly able to forgive my dad until Christ came into my life and taught me how. When I forgave my dad, such freedom as I had not known came into my life.
