Blind Guides

These days there are a lot voices calling for the attention of our youth. One of the biggest voices is MTV. Never has a medium produced such smut. Last year they produced the half-time show for the Superbowl. Besides Janet Jackson exposing her breast it included, Janet Jackson grabbing her breasts; another performer repeatedly fondling his crotch; striptease cheerleaders; gyrating transvestites; simulated lesbian sex; and Jackson and Justin Timberlake groping each other. This same MTV promoted Brittany Spears (who calls herself a Christian and now a student of the Kabala) and Madonna sharing an open mouthed kiss on their live award show last year.

Brittany Spears has called herself a role model for young girls. Unfortunately she is. Little girls as young as 3 want to dress like her and dance like her because of the videos they have watched off this channel. How can we allow our children to have these type of role models or even watch what they produce.

A school in Montreal suspended 2 thirteen year old girls because they were selling tickets to boys to come watch them kiss. They told their parents they got the idea from watching Brittany Spears and Madonna and thought it would be a great way to make money. This was going on for 4 months before school officials discovered what was going on.

These people are leading our children to Hell and some of us don’’t even realize it. We have become sensitized to the media. I’’m sure we have all heard the story of how if you put a frog in a pot of cold water on a stove and turn up the heat slowly, it won’’t notice the change in temperature and slowly boil to death. This is what the media has been doing to us and our children. They are slowly turning up the immorality and unless you are in God’’s word you don’’t notice it. Then when our children start acting and doing the things these people are doing we are surprised. Jesus said this in Matthew 15:14; Let them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch."  He gives those who would lead our children and young Chrristians astray a very strong warning. "But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. "Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come!"  Matthew 18:6-9

Earlier in Matthew Jesus said this; "The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light; but if your eye is not sound, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness" (Matthew 6:22-23). He also said, "If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell" (Matthew 5:29).  Unless you can control what you watch and have discernment, Turn off the TV. Don’’t let that garbage into your house. Christ is the best role model a child can and should have. He needs to be the centre of everything we do and watch.  It’’s time for us to stand up and say enough is enough, the only guide and role model I want is Jesus. Take a stand for righteousness today.

My apoligies to not getting Who Is Jesus? – Part 6 online as yet. I will get it up as soon as I can.

Please get your prayer request in today by 6:30pm EST. We would like to pray for you tonight.

hey Gerry is\’nt that the truth!! This world is satans playground along with the minds of our youth,I believe God is stirring up a company of people that will walk in holiness for the Lord!! A people that will declare and not be ashamed of taking that stand for truth!! Within that company they are a people who KNOW their God and will fight in the spirit realm, by standing in the gap and interceeding for this generation , we Have to cry out to the God of this generation and ask for mercy!! I have two sons who are not serving the Lord and I do not except what I see but what God has showed me they will be, I continually stand in the gap for them and I have even laid on their beds when they are not their for the power of the spirit to come and convict them!! God has a plan and a purpose for them and I remind the Lord of that, and He is faithful to bring it to pass,I also remind satan that he is defeated and will never have my boys, I alway speak into exsistence those things the Lord has showed me about them, I never let anything negative come out of my mouth concerning them!! God is faithful and He will have His way,We need to stand in the gap for this generation, and raise up the standard of holiness to this generation, and let them know OUR GOD REIGNS!!! Amen. In Christ ,Michele

Do you think that it is helpful to point out the sins and faults of others who are merely trying to make their way through a dangerous and harsh world and reality? Do they not need our love..which consists of respect, prayer, and hope for their hearts. Our cristicism and judgement does not reflect the redeeming heart of Christ, who loves the lost, the sinner, the weak, and the broken. We need to be a bridge to them, and not a further hinderance. Not piling loads upon others backs, and not being one who causes one of the little ones to stumble. I think that sometimes in our faith we can get lost and loose sight of the cross and the love and humility that Christ calls us to wear. Loosing sight of Christ does not lead us closer to God or to fallen fellow human beings. Take CareIn CanadaCj

  4. So tell me Chrystie, do you approve of the things they are doing? Are you making excuses for them? Don\’t get me wrong, people are praying for those like Brittany Spears. But these people have to come through the cross themselves. Christ died for them just as much as anyone else. Do you want these type of people as your children\’s rolemodels or would you rather have someone like Rebecca St.James who stands up for Jesus in all she does?Sin is sin and we as Christians cannot ignore that. We are watchman and for too long we have been silent.

  5. You are prolific! Every time I go to my blog, yours is on the list of updated sites.

  6. Hey, I\’m a Christian teen from Ontario and I\’ve got to say that you\’re right, there are a ton of terrible influences that are on my generation right now, and the majority of my peers don\’t have the ability to think for themselves and get out of this rut. Keep praying for us!Also, I saw United at the Ontario Pentecostal Senior High Convention last May, they\’re fantastic! Phil Dooley is the man. Thanks for posting shots of the concert!AJ

  7. hey gerry dont u think ur a little to old to have a blog…like isnt msn supposed to be for kids…i guess u have a lot of spare time!

  8. LOL Actually I am a full time minister of the Gospel. This has now become a ministry of our Church.

of course, the worst thing i have ever seen is two women kissing.i see images of dead americans and dead iraqis daily on the news, and i hear about children being kidnapped/raped/killed, wives being beaten/killed by husbands, homeless people dying on the streets, and we focus our time on what MTV broadcasts?ohhh no, they kissed.why are we focused on MTV, and not on, say, the situation in Sudan? (just one example of many things we should be paying attention to, instead of television)"More than 1.5 million people have fled their homes and tens of thousands of people have been killed. Pro-government Arab militias are accused of carrying out a campaign of ethnic cleansing against non-Arab groups in the region."not sure about any of you people, but that\’s more worrying to me than Janet Jackson\’s breast, or a kiss shared between two women.the waste of our time and resources focused on stupid things like MTV is what\’s wrong with the world, not MTV, and a \’lack of jesus\’

  10. Those issues are for another post. Don\’t think that those are not concerns. The whole world is out of wack. But here\’s the question. Do you have children? Who do you want to be their role models? They are going to have some whether you like it or not. How would you like it if you had a 13 year old daughter go out and get pregnant because of what they saw on a video on MTV?I have turned off my TV because there is nothing of value on it anymore.Look at yourself in the mirror and see if you see yourself here. Romans 1:18-32The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God\’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God\’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

The most remarkable comment I\’ve heard here is from patti_c when she says that our focus is one that blocks out the outside world, and focuses in on our own society. Yes, there are major problems in our society, but there always have been. If you take a cross-section of the celebrities commiting these immoral acts, of course one will get downtrodden, but there are far worse acts committed abroad, in countries not privledged enough to have our freedoms, many of the worst atrocities have happened with the support of our governments, why get mad at celebrities and not presidents and prime ministers? Problems in Latin America, Africa, Asia and everywhere else won\’t get better if Britney dresses like a nun, but there is a chance for the world to be a better place if the time and energy is spent sending our governments a message of Christian hope, love, forgiveness and sheparding

  12. We all know there are great problems in the world. This single blog does not tackle that. It deals with the influence that some mediums, MTV is just one example, have upon our youth. Wake up people there is a danger in your own back yard. I guess the frog in the pot is almost dead.

Another awesome post. People don\’t realise that what they think are the "little, unimportant" matters are of huge influence. These kids that grow up watching programs such as MTV are going to be our new prime ministers and presidents, let\’s not forget that! Sure issues in Iraq and Latin America and all that stuff is important, but I find that young teens and pre-teens are for more likely to be influenced by MTV than the news. Images of dead iraqis et cetera are terrible, but what 12-year-old girl thinks, "oh I want to be just like that dead iraqi, or that person who killed him" No, the younger generation looks to MTV for it\’s role models and yes, many will think "Oh, I want to be like Brittany"

Okay, I have to agree with you on this one; the media is a bad influence.

  15. I LOVE GOD, MAY GOD BLESS YOU,

  16. Hello Gerry It\’s me Joanne the sister who gave you the web site …….. Let me tell you somthing your in for a real persecution from the church for this one video like the comment from Chrystie Jayne, I am all for the Love Christ has spread in my heart for the precious sacrifice for mankind, and already becasue of this message This true Gospel that Jesus and the apostles have laid I am suffering for this message its small but still lonely, I can truly say I understand now what Jesus truly came for , and how he delt with people and how even those that claimed to know God called him posessed, and every other insult they did not believe His message, I have personally dug further in into the Gospels only to find that Jesus came to fulfill the Law, to up hold it to make a way so we could uphold it in Him, as He said "Love the Lord your God with all your heart mind soul and strength, and Love your neighbor as yourself, for the Law and the prophets hang on these………. Wow we up hold the Law STLL by these two commands through Christ and His amazing Grace, But wow we are not under the curse of the Law…… Now to those Christians who say we should not tell people they are sinners and we should loive them and show them grace Let me say this….. The law is the school master that brought us to Christ….. It is the mirror that shows us the seriousness of our sin and helps us to see the sacrifice as so much more……. It\’s time to Examine ourselves my Brother….. Are we going to carry this Gospel till Death… Yes Let us take up our Cross and deny ourselves….. God so richley Bless you Gerry Contend for the Faith that was delivered to all the saints once and for all……… This is it……. your Sister Joanne

    1) i\’m a guy, thanks though2) no, i don\’t have children.3) my parents raised me based on respect of others, and to treat people the way that i would like to be treated. i have never attended church, nor do i believe in any sort of god, but that\’s for another time. you don\’t need to be brought up fearing god and worshipping jesus to be a decent person.4) my children will be taught right from wrong, and real from make believe. i was raised to know that these celebrities lead different lives, and many people are driven by money. sorry to say, but you should open your eyes and realize sex sells.5) if children have proper role models at home, they won\’t need to find otuside sources (ie. MTV, etc) to live their life by.

  18. i would definitely have to agree with pattie. I\’m not a parent (and hopefully won\’t be for a while) but if children are taught real from fake and given a solid foundation for life, they will be able to make their own decisions, and make them well. Gerry does make a good point about the downhill slide of the media, but what actors are doing and how they live doesn\’t come close to the negative effect of many other issues around the world (eg. war, political issues).

  19. I must commend you on this entry. I found it very thought provoking. I may not have been on this plane of existence for very long, but in my 15 years I have watched my friends grow and change. Most often for the worse. I see them trying to change, to become their role models, some who have corrupted my comrades with violence and racial prejudices. Others who used to be "good" children have grown and find themselves fleeting from lie to lie, trying to cover up their actions. Yet there are some things in this entry that I do not agree with. However, that is to be expected, seeing as I follow the path of Druidism. As I leave you, I would like to say that you must have faith, in the world that we live in, in the children who are so easily corrupted in the great search to find themselves. It is not ones place to judge another, or to enforce their believes and opinions upon others. However it is ones place to let others live as they will, support them in whatever they do, for nothing is without it\’s positive aspects, and trust that they shall see the errors in their ways, if one truly can make errors in life.Blessed BeEthan Lalonde

  20. I agree with AJ..im 14 and all the kids around who are at the same age as me are complete idiots. They are always trying to be like those sluts and gangsters on mtv or much, I guess its "kool" or something…pfft not to me Also unlike many teens I do watch the news and I am deeply concerned with the government and how selfish and greedy they are. Its all for power and money nowadays.

  21. I can\’t believe how you feel MTV is wrong. It\’s television. Entertainment. It\’s sickens me how you people can take things so literally and seriously. Ever heard of a joke? No probably not, cause you\’d take it seriously and it would never be funny. Get it? Haha. All of you people need to seriously grow up. I respect what you believe in. But I don\’t respect your lack of respect for everything else that isn\’t what you believe in. I am Wiccan. And you know why I left Catholisim? Because everytime I left church, I wasn\’t even out of the parking lot yet and people were honking their horns and cutting in front of people to get out. That\’s why I left. Hippocritcs, and people with no sense of humor. I can laugh at my mistakes. You\’re "apparently" going to hell for yours. I thiink I\’ll go watch my MTV and laugh myself to death. Cause I\’d rather die laughing, then condemming everything around me. Later.

  22. And God laughs at your witchcraft Aaron. I don\’t know if you noticed, there are hypocrites everywhere in life. Non-christians such as yourself use it as an excuse. It is no joke, there is an agenda to go after the youth, but being a wiccan you are probably part of it.Come out of the darkness and into the light Aaron. Somebody paid the penelty for your sins. It\’s Jesus.

Don\’t you think you\’re being just a tad one-eyed, laughing at someone else\’s religion, putting it down because they left a comment you didn\’t like? I\’m a Catholic myself, before you come at me with your insults, but I think you\’re being somewhat presumptuous, making remarks on "witchcraft" without even knowing the basis of the faith. If this is your idea of Christianity, placing more importance on the fashion and sexual preferences of celebrities than on what\’s happening in the outside world, e.g. Sudan as pattie said, then you should rethink your career choice, because I shudder at the thought of these discriminatory values being taught to an entire church group.

  24. The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.Galations 5:19-21

  25. helow sir. its me again wondering what the problem is with music didnt we have the same problems when you were a kid the church wanted to ban heavy metal because of sex drugs and rock and roll.when a 13 year old girl goes out and gets pregnent it is not because of something she saw on tv just like did you sail a boat because you saw "gillagins island" no its a show at 13 a person has the ability to deside right and rong they shouldnt need to look to tv for those answers if they do they are more lost then gillaginthe goverment has more to do with every thing that goes rong now all the war coruption and deceet is govermental and it is all because they want there cut there money to fill the tank on there new mersadies and bmw\’s. bye the way lucifer says hi and the kids are fine eating fire ^joke laugh^

i was reading your blog…and I just want to say that you have the right to believe in whatever you want… if you think that the sky is pink and the grass is orange…that\’s fine by me, i won\’t condemn you for it…but people should give the same amount of respect that they are given… even if that means that i were to believe that fish fly and birds swim…it\’s the same thing… you don\’t have to believe in what I believe in…but at least respect it… it\’s our basic right as Canadians to have freedom of religion… whether it be christianity, muslim, buddhism or what have you… everyone has the right to believe in the god of their choice… there are so many different kinds of religions in the world…even within the boundaries of christianity… if you were to find something wrong with the teachings of any other religion, well, that sounds hypocritical to me… with buddhism, it teaches how to reach enlightenment on your own… people believe in that because it is pure to them… Zen teaches us to live for the moment… isn\’t that a good thing…? i\’m just saying that even if someone were to believe in something other than Jesus or anything associated with him, it doesn\’t mean that they are evil, and are going to hell…there are far greater evil things in this world than believing in what you WANT to believe in…work like the sunshine in YOUR heavensee what you donecome down and walk…(excerpt from Allen Ginsberg\’s "Gospel Noble Truth")

  27. AdmireThePatternForming People are right about us followers of Jesus. We are close minded. Jesus said I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me. There is no other way to God or salvation. All religion is wrong. Yes folks you heard it here! Religion doesn\’t save you. Religion is trying to live by a set of rules. Christianity is about relationship not religion. You have a relationship with someone who is real. Someone who is living. There is a song that goes. "And He walks with me and He talks with me." That is literal, but unless God opens your eyes you are not going to see that. There is nothing in this world that could ever offer to compare to the love and security I have found through Jesus Christ. He is the solid rock and all others are sinking sand.
